ISIS[edit]

Reminder: This article mentions Isis, but needs to clarify whether this refers to Isis or Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:27, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Title is ★ per Bowie's own site[edit]

The song's (and parent album's) title is in fact ★: see store.davidbowie.com/blackstar/blackstar-cd.html (dead link; archived link: [1]). I've changed accordingly throughout (diff), hopefully catching all the instances, but may have overlooked something. (Also fixed album article; discussion).

Bowie's site is unequivocal:

★ (pronounced “Blackstar”) is David Bowie’s 28th studio album and his first since stunning the world in 2013 with the critically acclaimed The Next Day. The release date for ★ coincides with David’s birthday. The album’s title track is the first single, and is accompanied by a short film visual directed by the acclaimed Johan Renck. Music from the ★ single has been featured in the opening title credits and trailers for the new TV series The Last Panthers.

From discussion at Talk:Blackstar_(David_Bowie_album)#Title_is_.E2.98.85_per_Bowie.27s_own_site, it looks like we should indicate the correct title in the lede and infobox while keeping the more recognizable/manageable "Blackstar" throughout the article body. This per MOS:TM and WP:COMMONNAME. Fixing. --Middle 8 (tc | privacyCOI) 09:55, 1 February 2016 (UTC) updated deadlink --Middle 8 (tc | privacyacupuncture COI?) 07:42, 6 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 21 February 2016[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: No move. Consensus is that the other topics titled "Blackstar" have enough coverage on other articles to make the disambiguation incomplete. Cúchullain t/c 21:03, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Blackstar (David Bowie song)Blackstar (song) – This is the only song named "Blackstar" that has an article on Wikipedia, and the proposed new title already redirects here. sst(conjugate) 12:12, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose per WP:NCM there are other "Blackstar" songs on Blackstar dab list, including charting singles, equally it's a small difference from "Black Star" the Avril Lavigne and Radiohead songs - and the Elvis Presley song "Black Star" some think Bowie is referencing. And it is by David Bowie, why hide it? There's no shame in having the artist name attached to a song. And it will only help people find it. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:22, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. I redirected Blackstar (song) to Black Star. ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:03, 21 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose the title track of Blackstar (Yahzarah album) is a song called "Blackstar", which is detailed on the eponymous album article -- 70.51.46.39 (talk) 06:26, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose for all the reasons voiced at Talk:Tennessee Whiskey (song). Also in this case the actual title is a symbol, who is to say if it is one or two words? --Richhoncho (talk) 16:03, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per all the above. It is very disappointing that the nominator SSTflyer, who is a frequent participant at RM, confuses the existence or otherwise of an article of a given title with coverage of a topic of that title. The question of whether there is an existing standalone article is almost irrelevant; what matters is whether en.wp has coverage of one or more other topics of that title. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 16:25, 22 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 30 June 2016[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Move. The consensus here, backed up by the RfC cited below, supports moving the article to the more WP:CONCISE disambiguation. Cúchullain t/c 20:22, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Blackstar (David Bowie song)Blackstar (song) – The album was moved because there were no other notable albums with the same name, so this should follow suit. Unreal7 (talk) 20:39, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per WP:CONCISE. At a recent RFC, it was determined that songs and albums should use the shorter title (disambiguated with "song" instead of "Band song") in cases such as this where there is no other song named "Black Star" or "Blackstar" with a Wikipedia article. Calidum ¤ 01:37, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per my previous RM, which predates the RFC. SSTflyer 15:06, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Recording date[edit]

Why is there no recording date? Surely there must be some record of the month Bowie went in for these sessions... plus the studio was mentioned, which suggests there is information. -Rolypolyman (talk) 08:33, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
