Spelling of Veysey. All the references in Sutton Coldfield spell the name Vesey, however Bishop of Exeter has the name as Veysey. Is there any determined preference between the two, and why?

The Oxford DNB says "Veysey (formerly Harman), John (c.1464–1554), bishop of Exeter ..." and notes that "His adoption of the surname Veysey dates from about [1497ish], perhaps as a compliment to John Veysey (d. 1492), an Oxford graduate and London city rector, who came from the west midlands and whose will made bequests to Harman and to his brother.". So they seem pretty decided on the spelling. Shimgray | talk | 14:37, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, forgot to sign that post. Thanks for that, Andrew :) Hmm, interesting. Looks like the current compromise is likely to be best stuck with - having him as Veysey in this article, and Vesey elsewhere when it applies to a specific title - eg. Sutton Vesey (Birmingham City Council ward name). The pub next door to my office is called The Bishop Vesey too :) DWaterson 20:37, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
