Proposed move[edit]

Surely this article should be Bingham Road railway station and not Bingham Road railway halt. Naming conventions dictate that it should end in 'railway station', and I think we should honour them. Kevin Steinhardt (talk) 09:10, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Surely nothing is dictated surely in WP, but the naming of Halt articles does need standardising. A look through List of closed railway stations in London shows a right mish-mash. Presumably "Halt" was written on nameboards and in timetables but "railway station" isn't so I'd suggest the articles should be "X Z Halt railway station" showing it to be a Halt and a railway station (though that is omitted, against that Diktat, where LU and buses also gather.) If this doesn't develop into an interminable WP argument, you choose and I'll try to get those in that list to comply.--SilasW (talk) 09:55, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2016 move[edit]

I have just moved Bingham Road Halt railway station to Bingham Road railway station because Nordic Dragon (talk · contribs) requested it with: rename to last name (and longest used) before station closure. I did the move willingly because "halt railway station" is an ugly tautology - "halt" in railway parlance implies a small scale version of a railway station. Conversely (or perversely) I would like to move Spencer Road Halt railway station to Spencer Road Halt because I believe that it was never referred to as a railway station. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:32, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@RHaworth: We always use the word "station" on heavy rail systems, see WP:NCUKSTATIONS. The vast majority of halts follow the "Foo Halt railway station" pattern, except for a few that haven't been spotted yet. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:39, 22 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
