Spelling[edit]

I've reverting this edit pending a consensus. "Bayezid" is already listed as one of the alternate spellings in the lead. I am not any sort of expert on the subject - is there a clear, compelling reason to change the primary spelling? If so then the disambiguation page should be moved to that spelling as well. Yes, there is. First a is a long a (just read it!), second is an unwritten short a, which becomes "e" in some languaged. Beyazid, or Beyazit is a wide-spread misreading, but it is a misreading. There is no need for any source for this since the first syllable is quite plainly written: << با >>. Just read it. That is "ba", with a long a. That could never be read "be" in any language (since it is so plainly written "ba"). Just go to the link for the article about Sultan Bayezid II of the Ottoman Empire, and you'll find there the transcription << Bāyezīd >>, with long a and long i. The short "a" after y can be read "e" or open "a" in some languages. Just take any Ottoman or Persian or Arabic dictionary and look it the transcription if you can't read << با >>.

I'll leave this discussion to people who are familiar with the languages in question. Regardless of the outcome, the lead should be fixed so that it doesn't mention the same spelling twice, and if necessary the page should be moved to match the primary spelling chosen.
