This is an incorrect entry. The very first recording of the Beethoven 5th Symphony was made by Friedrich Kark and the Odeon Symphony Orchestra in Berlin in 1910. It has been uploaded twice on You Tube and is referred to as being the first in the Wiki article on the complete work. Philipson55 (talk) 08:14, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, fixed with sources. Turns out that neither Kark nor Nikisch were in fact complete. In ictu oculi (talk) 11:30, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the article is still incorrect. It turns out there was another Beethoven 5th recorded before the Nikisch set, played by an un-named symphony orchestra under Francois Ruhlmann on the Pathe label, and dating from 1912. In addition, both the Kark and Nikisch sets were complete, not as stated otherwise. Finally, not only did Albert Coates not record the Beethoven 5th in 1920, he never recorded it in his entire life! The source for this is Christopher Dyment's Coates Discography, published by the British Institute of Recorded Sound in their journal No. 57-58 of January-April 1975. This can also be found on-line.Philipson55 (talk) 07:56, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
