Merger proposal[edit]

I would suggest that this page and Black Down, Somerset should be meged as they both cover largely the same material.— Rod talk 18:52, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rod, I think you can go ahead and be bold. Merge all the info and the reference to Beacon Batch, that seems like a good and uncontroversial option to me. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 22:52, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've now done the merge.— Rod talk 09:11, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name of article[edit]

Wouldn't this article be better named Black Down, Somerset? Most of the article is about the hill rather than the area on the hill known as Beacon Batch. At present there seems to be some confusion as to whether Beacon Batch is the name of the hill itself. Some of the peak baggers websites seem to refer to the hill as Beacon Batch, but as far as I know it has always been referred to locally as Black Down. If you see the discussion above there were previously two separate articles which largely duplicated the content in both & therefore I merged them. The selection of the title was based on the OS maps which show the trig point as Beacon Batch with Black Down, Somerset redirecting to it. I wouldn't have any objection to the article being moved, but I don't think there is enough unique material for 2 articles. Probably best to leave it for a few days to see if anyone else comments.— Rod talk 10:24, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks - I wasn't suggesting splitting the article again. Beacon Batch is a particular area (which includes the summit) on Black Down, so my thinking was that the article should be named after the hill itself, with Beacon Batch redirected to it.Mhockey (talk) 19:41, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
