Requested move[edit]

This article must be moved to clear the honorific to "Baselios Cleemis" or maybe without even the title. But see popes for examples.Student7 (talk) 13:23, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I don't think this article should be moved or changed,Drjmarkov (talk) 01:28, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Why not? (Please see Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Honorific_prefixes if you haven't looked at it already). Also Pope John Paul II (so "Baselios" would be included. Student7 (talk) 12:31, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I also think the article should be moved or changed as used drjmarkov said (Alex.mathews (talk) 01:18, 30 January 2013 (UTC))[reply]

Honorifics[edit]

There has been a persistent problem with people adding honorifics to various leaders of the church in India. "Moran Mar" is not allowed, nor are any honorifics allowed preceding anyone's name. Titles can be used once, like "Catholicos", for example.Student7 (talk) 13:20, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cardinal Baselios Cleemis does not hold the title "Catholicos"[edit]

Hi. This is regarding the page edit of Cardinal Baselios Cleemis. Earlier as you have writted he is not a Catholicos. Pls check the vatican siote http://press.vatican.va/content/salastampa/en/documentation/cardinali_biografie/cardinali_bio_thottunkal_bc.html

This is a wrong message telling him to be the Catholicose. The post of Catholicose is eaqual to the Papal Chair. How can a Cardinal be equal to the Pope. In the year 2005 this Church was elevated to the status of a Major Archiepiscopal Church and suddenly the Church began to address its Primate as Major Archbishop Catholicos. Catholicos title has not been granted by Vatican and that has been clearly mentioned in the letter (Port.N. 2581/2005/h) sent on 18th June 2005 by His Excellency Cardinal Walter Kasper, the then President of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity to the late Metropolitan Philipose Mar Eusebius , the President of the Ecumenical Relations Department of Indian Malankara Orthodox Church. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Goldilex (talkcontribs) 13:28, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ZENIT source Kerala Catholic Bishops' Conference Syro-Malankara Catholic Church all official websites describe him thus. Elizium23 (talk) 16:08, 21 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I see where you are coming from. In fact a Vatican Insider article says he/his Church has claimed these titles unilaterally without the Holy See. I think this issue needs to be discussed in the article outright, rather than just deleted. But it's clear we cannot uncritically accord these titles to him. Elizium23 (talk) 02:32, 23 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The title is based on the authority given to the sui iuris Churches by the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches (CCEO), please read and understand the canon before making edits like this.febycv (talk) 02:48, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You claim there is a canon, but you did not give a canon number, nor have you provided a reliable secondary source for your claims, so I have reverted. Elizium23 (talk) 19:44, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Baselios Cleemis

Baselios Cleemis (born 15 June 1959) is the current major archbishop of the Syro-Malankara Catholic Church. He was elevated to the College of Cardinals by Pope Benedict XVI on 24 November 2012. Cleemis is the first bishop of the Syro-Malankara Church, and the fifth Keralite, to be created a cardinal. He said it was a sign of the Pope's appreciation of Indian Catholics' "unity in diversity", and cited the witness, the defence of human life, and the example of authentic prayer given by Mother Teresa.
