Ford professor?[edit]

I was just wondering what a "Ford" professor means exactly. Is it a position sponsored by Ford? Maybe someone can clarify this...

It's a named chair: basically, a position that carries some extra prestige and probably funding. See professor, under "named chair". Mango juice^talk 13:08, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removed CLU claim[edit]

Removed the claim that CLU was "the first programming language to support data abstraction." This is not supported by the CLU article, and is directly contradicted by the OOPSLA 87 talk, "Data Abstraction and Hierarchy" where Prof. Liskov says, "Data abstractions are supported by linguistic mechanisms in several languages. IIRC, it's something more specific that was original to CLU. Inheritance? I'll go look in the sources. We should say something about what CLU is important for. Mango juice^talk 17:48, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

British computer scientist[edit]

Agreed, the this change appears to be erroneous in this and also in changing the date Liskov received the Turing Award, which appears to be 2008 as originally stated, not 2002.
