Untitled[edit]

I presume the reason for this operation is because Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania do not yet have substantial air forces(?) In any case I think the rationale should be explained. Grant | Talk 09:14, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

One of the links mentioned the inclusion of these three states into NATO left them without an Air force, perhaps against retaliatory attacks by Russia. Thus, this policing. Anooneemiss 06:16, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Assaults on pilots section[edit]

Is the section "Assaults on pilots" really necessary? It doesn't seem relevant for this article, nor does it point out a specific situation. Plus the behavior remarks seem meaningless and offensive. The Portuguese mission went very well, they even helped to support an orphanage before Christmas with gifts and stuff. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PTwikifan (talkcontribs) 16:06, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Its unnecessary. The Norwegian pilots that are there right now have established contact with an orphanage too and we've never had any reports of violent encounters with the civilian population at all with regards to the present or previous Norwegian contingents. I think the section should be removed as it does not add much at all to the article. Manxruler (talk) 18:47, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I also agree that this info is unnecessary. Moved this info on talk:

== Assaults on pilots == Starting [[2004]], several pilots that were working at Zokniai/Šiauliai International Airport in the Baltic Air Policing mission, were beaten and robbed by locals. Reportedly, this happened because of pilots being not careful enough or acted aggressively. As one local newspaper noted: "The pilots were warned not to walk by one, use taxis and not to trust the men and women they met in bars. The pilots did not listen (...) There is another version of why NATO soldiers keep getting into trouble in Šiauliai. They behave extremely rude and do not respect the locals."<ref>*[http://www.ve.lt/?rub=1065924810&data=2004-12-21&id=1103565324 Who Beats NATO Soldiers in Šiauliai and Why? {{lt icon}}]</ref> M.K. Removed combatant flags...[edit]

...because NATO does not view this as a combat operation, it looks messy, and repeats the deployments list, whilst the deployments list is more useful. Chwyatt (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 13:52, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

USAFE[edit]

Why was removed my edition [1] about USAFE and Spangdahlem AFB in the USAF row ? I think was not only more informative but it also merit the clarification in such big organisation like the USAF . Jor70 (talk) 13:37, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Separate Squadron[edit]

Since May 2008 a dedicated Baltic Air Policing Squadron is under evaluation.

Could you provide a source for that claim, please? And sign your edits? Manxruler (talk) 13:42, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WHY?[edit]

Why can't the estonians, the Latvians and the Lithuanians do the job on their own? Each state has its own air force. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 132.199.32.41 (talk) 10:04, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

They don't have modern fighters. That's why. Manxruler (talk) 10:37, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's very simple. Modern day fighter jet cost up to $ 100 mln to purchase and twice more to operate. Small coutries can't afford it due to their small defence budgets.--SojerPL (talk) 18:47, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Reference to Sept 11 Unnecessary[edit]

The wording "It did not take the events of September 11, 2001 to make the public aware of the fundamental importance of Air Policing" seems unnecessarily political. It's tangentially relevant, so maybe someone can find a better way of wording it, such as saying that the purpose of it is to prevent incidents such as Sept 11 (is it really?) or remove it completely. --Frugen (talk) 17:09, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Definition wrong[edit]

Baltic air-policing is not a "NATO air defence Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) in order to guard the airspace over the three Baltic states". QRA is an alert status, not a mission. BAP is simply a NATO mission to guard the airspace over the three Baltic states [against the threat of Russian attacks]".Royalcourtier (talk) 02:25, 15 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
