Rubbish[edit]

Oh my God: who wrote this crap? Ballybeg has no etymological connection to the French bailie. This is so basic. Bally is an anglicised form of the Irish word 'baile' which means 'town' and prior to that it meant 'homestead'. Sráidbhaile = village (one street town). 'Baile' is obviously an extremely common word in the Irish today. Ballybeg is from 'baile beag', meaning 'small town'. Grrr! 86.44.60.127 (talk) 05:48, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be a malformed dab. Since real-world topics are usually primary over fictional ones, I suggest that the fictional town discusses in the first paragraph be split into Ballybeg (fictional town) since there are several real places with articles. As there had been no input or action since the tag was added (18+ months ago), I've taken the bold step to convert this into a DAB article. While this does mean that some Friel-related articles link to this (now) DAB page, it is perhaps better than an open-ended tag/discussion. From here I will do some more research, to see whether there is a primary topic/meaning. And, if there is one, I'll either "split" the Friel-related content to Ballybeg (fictional town). Or, if the Friel-related term is the primary topic, will "split" the non-Friel meanings to Ballybeg (disambiguation). Guliolopez (talk) 09:35, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed the split. This article is now a DAB page (as it likely should be, given the multiple meanings, of which none seems to be a principle/primary meaning). And Ballybeg (fictional town) covers the Friel-related content. Guliolopez (talk) 11:01, 18 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
