Score and film[edit]

Untitled[edit]

This article bothers me. Although conceived as a single work at the outset, the score and film were not intended for each other, and have thus gone on to lead separate existences. This particular article talks about the score, but says almost nothing about the film, which is a significant early avant garde work. It seems to be this article should be forked, and a separate article for the film should be made. -- kosboot (talk) 17:54, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree in principle. However, your concerns could be addressed merely by inserting some more sections within this article, starting with the heading Ballet Mécanique#Ballet Mécanique as a film. It would have to be someone other than myself fleshing it out. Binksternet (talk) 00:10, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, actually I disagree - both the musical work and even more so, the film, are important works in their own genres, and asides from the title, have really nothing to do with each other. I'll attempt a fork in the next few days and create an article on the film (which will probably be more like a stub, but which I'm sure many will add to). -- kosboot (talk) 03:49, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wishing you well in your determined course. Any more information on the film side will be a benefit to all. Binksternet (talk) 17:06, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I have the resoruces, but if I only had time :(. -- kosboot (talk) 19:41, 12 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am bothered by the inclusion of original research that is difficult to follow and read, even as a native English speaker. I’m addition, the section that begins with “On the other hand, scholars of the film and of Antheil's music almost unanimously consider most of the previous two paragraphs to be unsupported by any verifiable research, and know that to consider any version of the score to be ‘canonical’ is nonsensical,” should disqualify the previous two paragraphs from being included in Wikipedia. Sorry for the typos but I’m on my phone. ChurroCat (talk) 13:31, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ballet Mécanique as synchronized film[edit]

Although originally conceived as a joint project, the music and film Ballet Mécanique were never synchronized with one another, except as modern experiments. Thus the entire section is based more on recent attempts to create a combined work which was never intended for the finished versions of film or score (the score - in all its versions - is significantly longer than the film). Thus I would relegate this section as a note in a "legacy" (or similarly titled) section. - kosboot (talk) 19:05, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. There are many problems with this section, including poor use of Wikipedia conventions. Corinna.kirsch (talk) 20:54, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
