Arabic writing

I intend to remove the arabic writing ftom the city name again. it was added anonymously and without rationale. I do not think it belongs here. Wefa (talk) 22:13, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Can somebody point to a source for the correct English spelling of the city's name? Who decides how things are written in English? Wefa (talk) 23:52, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Modern Spelling needed for the text of articles based partly on the Encyclopædia_Britannica_Eleventh_Edition

After the introductory explanation that the former English spelling was “Badajos”, all spellings in the Wikipedia article should be modern (Badajoz). I have therefore made suitable amendments in the text (8 examples). Incidentally, in Battle of Badajoz there are no examples of the older English form.

The reason why the old spelling was kept here is probably explained by the end Note: "This article incorporates text from the Encyclopædia_Britannica_Eleventh_Edition, a publication now in the public domain." (Date: 1910-1911)

Of relevance here for this article and for checking similar ones in Wikipedia are the following two quotations from Encyclopædia Britannica Eleventh Edition:

At the beginning: "This edition of the encyclopedia is now in the public domain, but the outdated nature of some of its content makes its use as a source for modern scholarship problematic."

At the end: "The eleventh edition of Encyclopædia Britannica has become a commonly quoted source, both because of the reputation of the Britannica and because it is now in the public domain and has been made available on the Internet. It has been used as a source by many modern projects including Wikipedia and the Gutenberg Encyclopedia." Ombudswiki (talk) 08:21, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
