Chaldean / Caladanian[edit]

I have removed references to "Caladanian" - which is a type of mollusc. All of the references cited in this section use "Chaldean" which is accepted scholarship.Rhona Dalley (talk) 11:33, 26 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Old Babylonian Empire was not 'short-lived' compared with those in modern history.[edit]

This article describes the Old Babylonian Empire (which it dates to c1894-1595BC) as 'short-lived'. That might hold some truth in comparison with the Empires of Egypt and Rome, but not in comparison with the empires of modern human history. If we see the British Empire as lasting from the victory at Plassey in 1757 to the humiliation of Suez in 1956, the Old Babylonian Empire lasted a century longer. Main pic[edit]

I believe the main pic is from a Saddam-era reconstruction, although I don't have any written sources on-hand to back that up. I visited Babylon last month, and an archaeologist there told me that this part (most of what surrounds the procession path above modern ground-level) was reconstructed.

Should we use another pic instead? I took several of parts that are supposedly parts of the original ruins, I can upload them to Commons upon request.

The Saddam reconstructions, while visually impressive and undoubtedly beautiful in parts, leave kind of a bad taste in peoples' mouths. They're also just modern reconstructions, undoubtedly inaccurate (not to mention the Babylonians wouldn't have stamped Saddam's name in their bricks). History of the city: 14 centuries are missing[edit]

At least 14: a short mention of C2 BCE, with a few words about 1 century later, and then nothing till C13 CE! Generalities about Mesopotamia or the region around Babylon are masking 14-15 centuries of zero info about the city, town, village, whatever! Far from ideal. Nothing excavated from these 1400 years, no sources for them? I came looking for info on C3 CE, i.e. if a mention on another page isn't wrongly linked here, but found nothing.
