YouTube links[edit]

This article is one of thousands on Wikipedia that have a link to YouTube in it. Based on the External links policy, most of these should probably be removed. I'm putting this message here, on this talk page, to request the regular editors take a look at the link and make sure it doesn't violate policy. In short: 1. 99% of the time YouTube should not be used as a source. 2. We must not link to material that violates someones copyright. Autorail → Renault autorail — The Panoramic X 4200 is a two-level Railcar, therefore I'm suggesting merging with Railcar as a section or i Petition For Name Change: 03:03, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

Autorail → X4200 Panoramique or → Renault Autorail[edit]

The name Autorail is misleading since in French there is already an article about Autorail (→ Français) which in English it would be Railcar.

I would suggest renaming this page to Renault autorail to cover the whole range of Renault models. It can then link to railcar for the generic meaning of this type of train. Warren Whyte (talk) 01:19, 8 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Where does the Bugatti fit into this? I don't see a compelling need to move this article from Autorail in the first place — there's no reason why article names have to be exactly sunchronised across wikis anyway. We manage OK with en:Chat and fr:Chat after all. As to Renault autorail, then it seems a rather arbitrary choice, rather than anything fundamental to the notion of an autorail. I think one solution would be to rename this page Renault Autorail, and any other railcar models can be included in the general Railcar page (especially as there is no mention of Bugatti on this page at present anyway). The question, as always with these renames, is what the scope of the idealised target article should be, then picking a name to match that. The can often be what the scope of the best article should be, not necessarily what it covers at present. The current lead, "The French word Autorail describes a single powered vehicle capable of carrying passengers. French designed vehicles are some of the most interesting made."', is IMHO a good scope for an article. It should be on French Autorails in particular. This would include Renault, Bugatti and the Micheline too, but exclude British, German, Italian, Irish railbuses, railcars and railmotors etc. I think it would probably also focus on the earlier single-unit autorails, not current multi-units. Fortunately the term "Autorail" seems to be particularly specific to France, so I don't think it needs to be qualified further. Andy Dingley (talk) 15:59, 13 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
