Merger with Sporting Chronicle[edit]

I don't think the newspaper with which Athletic News merged was the Sporting Chronicle that was part of Bell's Life in London (founded 1822), I think it was a different, Manchester-based newspaper, also called Sporting Chronicle (founded 1871). Has anyone got any sources to clarify? Peaky76 (talk) 00:07, 25 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is not the same newspaper, although Edward Hulton senior (father of Edward Hulton) who founded Athletic News in 1875 was involved with both Sporting Chronicle titles. Hulton senior founded the Manchester-based Sporting Chronicle in 1871 and briefly owned Bell's Life in London in 1885–1886. Source: Brake, Laurel; Demoor, Marysa, eds. (2009).
