Name[edit]

It seems not 100% clear whether the proper name is A. aethiopicus or A. densiflorus. Discussion of this issue might be a good idea. [1], [2]. "sprengeri" is a name applied to a cultivar. Circeus (talk) 04:58, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At least 3 sources note that the name densiflorus is misapplied. I suggest renaming to Asparagus aethiopicus to adhere to the accepted nomenclature. Enkidu6 (talk) 09:32, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done. ~~At present, Asparagus densiflorus redirects here, which isn't right; there should be a separate article on it.~~ The text may need a bit of editing to completely fix the confusion between the two species; I haven't checked that all of the references which use the name A. densiflorus actually refer to A. aethiopicus. Weed?[edit]

I have no doubt that asparagus ferns are weeds in many places, but it seems improper to call it "a weed native to South Africa, which is often used as an ornamental plant." The term "weed" is completely subjective, and an asparagus fern intentionally grown as an ornamental is, by definition, not a weed. Maybe revise to something like "...a plant native to South Africa, which is often used as an ornamental, but is considered an invasive weed in many locations." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.237.73.81 (talk) 20:42, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
