Askole is the last Village[edit]

About Askole Village

Askoli is a community of about 75 households in the upper reaches of the Braldu valley. Historically, Askoli has been the last village that visitors to the Karakoram have passed through before heading on to the Baltoro or Biafo glaciers. Situated at 3050 masl, Askoli is, like most villages in the upper Braldu, reliant on an agro-pastoral economy. Primary crops are wheat, buckwheat, turnips and peas. Livestock include goats, sheep, cattle, Yak and Dzo (a yak-cattle hybrid). Askoli controls an extensive land-base. While crop cultivation is restricted to the village, Askoli's pasture and hunting grounds extend up the Biafo, Dumordo and Baltoro valleys.
