Does anyone have a definitive source on the architect? Wikipedia generally gives Harry Fairhurst, e.g. Princess Street, Grade II* listed buildings in Greater Manchester. This is supported by British Listed Buildings Online, which itself sources from English Heritage. But both Pevsner and Clare Hartwell give I.R.E.Birkett, the architect of Princes Buildings on Oxford Road. Would be good to have it confirmed. KJP1 (talk) 15:54, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

google books' version of Parkinson-Bailey gives Fairhurst. Fairhursts architects: the history of a Manchester practice might nail it. Pevsner's 1969 volume doesn't seem to mention the building; the city centre section of the 2004 Pevsner is based on the book by Hartwell, so the two are not independent. Personally, its style is so like Manchester House, which is definitely Birkett, that I think its his. But shall search further. The data on British Listed Buildings comes from http://lbonline.english-heritage.org.uk/, which contains the original text from when the building was first listed. As one of the earlier buildings to be listed, it's quite possible that later information has come to light which contradicts the original author (or possibly, it was simply a mistake to begin with). The Viewfinder page quoted above is more recent, and maybe more reliable. InTheVale (talk) 20:58, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
