Stand on Narendra Modi[edit]

If no other views of his are being discussed, should his views alone on Modi be included? --Mohit Singh (talk) 19:54, 29 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Revert[edit]

I had reverted it previously which was replaced by User:Soham321 and now I have reverted it again. Reverting back the edit as there is no official record or reference to prove that he is a supporter of Modi. A journalist's article on a leader is not a ground. User had added Ashok Malik has praised, supported, and defended Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.. For reference he had provided this new report. However this is merely an article which talks about his political rise and is not a ground to claim that the journalist is a supporter. He is a journalist and he may write such articles. A journalist may sometimes write in favour of a leader and may sometimes write against him or may not do so. But this cannot be generalised for any particular opinion. There is no other data whatsoever to prove such a claim. Unverifiable data should not be added to any biography page as per the Wikipedia BLP policy. Wikipedia does not publish original research. Its content is determined by previously published information rather than the beliefs or experiences of its editors. Even if you're sure something is true, it must be verifiable before you can add it. I request User to not to revert this edit before justifying the claim here on the talk page.--Mohit Singh (talk) 09:24, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Indian polity today is polarized in favor of or against Narendra Modi. Malik has strongly supported Narendra Modi and criticized Modi's critics and this is all I have added to the page in a neutral and non judgemental way.--Soham321 (talk)

This is very wrong to say that Indian polity is polarized in favor of or against Narendra Modi. An article is not sufficient to substantiate such a claim at least not for the purpose of Wikipedia. You are requested not to revert this change. You may seek dispute redressal. Your view point qualifies as a non-neutral approach as per the WIki BLP policy.--Mohit Singh (talk) 15:34, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Let us agree to disagree on whether Indian polity is polarized in favor of or against Narendra Modi. But you cannot dispute the fact that Modi is an important political leader. He is the Chief Minister of Gujarat and is being projected as a future prime minister by many people within and outside the BJP. i am simply stating the fact that Malik has praised, supported, and defended Narendra Modi. I am stating this on the basis of Malik's own article, not an article written by someone else. Please respond why you keep deleting this information (as if you wish to hide this information from others) otherwise i will be reverting the edit again.--Soham321 (talk)
Obviously, there is no point discussing whether Narendra Modi is an important figure or not. But my point is that what relevance does Modi has on Malik that he may be included in his biography. He may write articles in support of n number of leaders, then those n numbers of views may not be included in his biography page. I have been deleting this because his views on Modi are not of so much relevance that Malik's views on him may be included in such a small wiki BLP of Malik's. You may refer to WP:NPF. This specifically provides this Many Wikipedia articles contain material on people who are not well known, even if they are notable enough for their own article. In such cases, exercise restraint and include only material relevant to the person's notability, focusing on high-quality secondary sources.
Also, you have done this on other pages, I repeat again, please do not make adverse and baseless comments like as if you wish to hide this information from others and do not use threats like otherwise i will be reverting the edit again. This are against Wiki policy which I request you to go through again. --Mohit Singh (talk) 17:04, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that i am not threatening you in any way and your misinterpreting my words and falsely claiming that i am threatening you is itself against wikipedia policy which entails that one must be polite and courteous to other wiki posters. I reiterate that i am not threatening you in any way. Claiming that i will revert the edit if you do not respond why you keep deleting my edits should not be construed as a threat. You have referred to my other posts (on other wiki pages); may i remind you that you yourself have been warned of creating a wiki page which is in the form of an advertisment and completely against wikipedia policy. The wikipedia guideline you cite is completely irrelevant in this case for the simple reason that Malik's views that i am including in his wiki biography pertain to his views on Narendra Modi who is a very well known figure in India. He is the Chief Minister of Gujarat and is being projected as a future Prime Minister by some quarters in his party and also in the media. So your objection to including the views of Malik on Narendra Modi (gleaned from an article which Malik himself has written, and not an article written by someone else) is not sustainable. It is clear that you have completely misunderstood the wikipedia guideline you are now citing which clearly says that 'material on people who are not well known' should be included with discretion but this guideline is clearly not applicable to Narendra Modi who happens to be very well known in India being a current Chief Minister of an important Indian state. If you continue to give unsatisfactory explanations based on your incorrect understanding of wikipedia guidelines i will be reverting the edit. I have no problem if you opt for dispute resolution. --Soham321 (talk)
You did not get the point. I am not saying that Narendra Modi is not a significant person. I am merely saying that what Malik has to say about him is not relevant for his Biography page. The point taken from Wikipedia policy is very relevant: ...include only material relevant to the person's notability, focusing on high-quality secondary sources. Like I said earlier, he may write articles in support of n number of leaders, then those n numbers of views may not be included in his biography page. Please answer that how are his views on Modi so relevant for his biography page considering the earlier mentioned points. --Mohit Singh (talk) 17:50, 9 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sadly you continue to misinterpret the wikipedia guideline you yourself cite. The source is clearly a high quality one since it is Malik's own article published in a reputed publication. The person is also notable since it is none other than Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. If Malik has written articles strongly endorsing or strongly criticizing any individual well known to the public, and particularly if that individual is occupying a high public office (like Narendra Modi), then Malik's views on such an individual deserves mention in Malik's wikipedia page. --Soham321 (talk)
