excess[edit]

with all due respect to law enforcement, firefighters, etc., the run-down of every hiring, firing, promotion, etc., is really excessive, as is a lot of the rest of the info in this article. It could really, really, really use some editing. PurpleChez (talk) 01:44, 1 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate whoever took the time to do all of this, but the mundane nature of the history of the fire department is a little ridiculous. No one cares about that history, and if they do, create a page for just that. Also I am pretty sure there are successful people from Ashland, PA who weren't in sports. I did eliminate quite a bit of garbage and non notable stuff out of this article. However, there is still plenty of non notable stuff that can stand to be pruned. I will see if I can snip some more of it out. Safiel (talk) 19:36, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Major Purge[edit]

I have performed a major purge of the article. Much of the info in this article was added by a single IP user over a couple of days. No sourcing and the neutrality and relevance of the information left much to be desired. I think the best thing to do is clear it all out and start over, which I have done. Also, I kind of got the feeling that much of that text was ripped either verbose or at least paraphrased from a Chamber of Comnmerce publication and that the information was added by the Chamber of Commerce or one of its officials. This article was really excessive with far too much trivia about the fire and police departments, parks and so on. But it also had some good info that should have stayed in the article, for example the paragraph about the anthracite museum and railroad. Notable person...[edit]

I'm not very familiar with all the nuances of how Wikipedia works, but some time ago I asked why Carl Bernosky, who lives at 1031 Fountain Street, Ashland, Pennsylvania 17921, (http://www.carlbernosky.com/contactus.html) and has won the NRA national championships 9 times over since 2010, (http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/2010/08/sherri-and-carl-battle-down-to-the-wire-in-nra-high-power-national-championship/) and yet he isn't listed in the notable people section.

This is no easy feat, and takes so much time, training and concentration. Not to mention the yearly matches at Camp Perry, see thousands of shooters from all over the country, including representatives from almost every branch of the military all show up to one place to see who's the best, and this person has done it 9 times over.

So because he doesn't run around a court and throw a ball into a basket... or hit a ball with a stick and run around a field... and be paid millions of dollars to do this (in fact, nearly all competition shooters do it all out of their own pocket) he doesn't deserve some kind of mention?
