Is anyone aware if Lord (Arthur) Hobhouse is related to Lord (John) Hobhouse, also a judge in the House of Lords? --Legis (talk - contribs) 15:38, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Legis: Yes, I'll try to work it out. Arthur Hobhouse, 1st Baron Hobhouse was the uncle and guardian of Henry Hobhouse (East Somerset MP). Henry was the father of John Richard Hobhouse, the shipowner, who was the father of John Hobhouse, Baron Hobhouse of Woodborough. So, if I've counted right, Arthur was John's great-great-uncle (grandfather's uncle). I think it's a fair bet that any other notable Hobhouse will be related. @DuncanHill: That's great, many thanks. I think it might be useful to update particularly the younger Hobhouse's page to reflect that. I don't suppose by any chance you have a single WP:RS we could point to for that link? --Legis (talk - contribs) 19:30, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Legis: I worked it out from the ODNB articles - the Henry Hobhouse article says Arthur was his uncle and guardian, and that John Richard was his third son. The John Richard article says H of Woodborough was his son. Do you have ODNB access? If not then I can email pdfs of the articles to you, if you email me first through Wikipedia. I've managed to work the relationships into the articles. DuncanHill (talk) 21:08, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Brill, thanks. --Legis (talk - contribs) 21:39, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It was a pleasure - a good question to have been asked! DuncanHill (talk) 22:18, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
