Nick Lauda[edit]

Is the "Nick Lauda" referred to in the article supposed to be the real Niki Lauda? Or is it a Niki Lauda-like character named "Nick Lauda"? DH85868993 (talk) 02:38, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fairly sure that the series makers wanted to make the character the real Nikki Lauda, because they even tell of his accident and burn wounds. Later episodes of the show also include other famous drivers from the era, like Mario Andretti and Jody Scheckter. I don't know what made them decide to call the driver "Nick" in stead of "Nikki". Merchandise section[edit]

Now, I'm a complete Popy fanboy, but the comparison with Matchbox is a complete red herring. I'm not much of an expert on Matchbox themselves, but I know for a fact both Corgi and Dinky did a wide range of F1 and similar racing cars that were commonly avaliable in toy stores (a quick Google shows Matchbox did do a fair number as well). The larger models often had fairly accurate reproduction of sponsorship and detail, or complex fictional layouts, and were heavy on diecast. To suggest Popy got to that one first, which the section does, is bordering on an out-and-out lie.

It's also of questionable use anyway - I have no idea what the Japanese market for F1 toy cars was like before Arrow Emblem, but the state of the Western market (where, IIRC, the toys didn't come out) is irrelevant.
