Questionable accuracy of firearm information[edit]

"Weapons include GLOCK 17 pistols for all officers, and each car also carries two Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns in a locked gun cupboard. Both weapons are chambered for 9mm rounds, selected for its good stopping power, in particular a statistically high one-shot stop probability."

I have great trouble believing this. The 9x19mm round has been known for years for poor - or at least decidedly unsatisfactory - ballistic performance, not least of which is a tendency towards overpenetration and consequently poor energy transfer. Now, I don't know what ammunition police forces here use, if they use high-expansion hollowpoints or what, but the 9mm round in its most basic form certainly has nothing approaching "good" stopping power, and a one-shot stop is luck if anything.

There's a reason so many American agencies are switching to .40 S&W...

I don't have any specific suggestion for a change, apart from removing that justification for the calibre - I'm just interested to hear the rationale behind including it.

I am unsure of the reason for the 9x19mm round being used but the Glock 17 and MP5 are certainly used, interestingly enough, some police forces are currently swapping the glock for the sig p226 for female officers as the grip is more comfortable for smaller hands. I agree with Torak... removing the justification for the caliber is probably the right move for now.

As for amending the stub - I've heard that the drivers of these vehicles must pass a very involved drivers traning course, and I've also heard that there might be some medical traning of one or more of the officers. I have no data to back this up, though. GuardEMT 21:23, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Idiotic Redirect[edit]

What moron directed "Armed Response" to "armed response vehicle"? Evidently someone who wants to keep people away from the page for the 1986 David Carradine film Armed Response. Can someone change this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.127.100.22 (talk) 07:07, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a disamb at the top of the article. --TBM10 (talk) 14:05, 26 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
