I am trying to add on to this page. I cannot find hardly anything on this breed of horse. I would really appreciate some help.

Hobby horse?[edit]

Thanks for creating the article and yes, there's not much information out there. Do you have any idea what your source meant by "hobby horse"? I'm thinking what is known in the US as a "family horse" - a horse kept without monetary gain, almost as a pet. Wi2g 19:04, 23 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Italics?[edit]

Per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Text_formatting#Foreign_terms, you may want to take a look at words like "Rote Liste" in this and other articles. Per the guideline, "Wikipedia prefers italics for phrases in other languages and for isolated foreign words that do not yet have everyday use in non-specialized English. " i.e. Rote Liste (Red List). It does add a certain stylistic panache to the article and makes it a bit more readable, IMHO. Not a moral issue, just a suggestion. Montanabw ^(talk) 17:32, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I'm quite familiar with that bit of the MOS. The crucial bit of it here is "A proper name is usually not italicized when it is used, but it may be italicized when the name itself is being referred to". I'm treating "Rote Liste" as a proper name (as the sources do), and capitalising it as such, so italics would be kind of belt and braces. As a sort of reductio ad absurdum, would you use italics for "Nordkirchen"? "Berlin"? "Hitler"? By the way, the German-language terms here have hidden {{lang}} templates so that they don't make reading software stumble – or at least, they should do. And I forgot to link Rote Liste ... Well, MOS does say we don't have to italicize familiar foreign words that have been incorporated into English, (e.g. Berlin) so I dispute your logic a bit there, but it's also not a moral issue. I would suggest that italics make things more readable where we offer a translation in the text (i.e. Foo (Foobar) or "Foo (foobar) whichever); that said, the wikilink actually helped immensely Really, it's all about my damn cataracts (going to have surgery in December - finally) and my new, middle-aged Hyperopia that may or may not improve much after the surgery! (the cataract implant lens may help my Myopia, but not the need for the damn reading glasses...or bifocals or whatever. God, but aging sucks!) Montanabw ^(talk) 03:05, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
