Expansion and Citation[edit]

This article is undersourced and missing information on the game's development and gameplay which need to be added to the article. The article is also missing major citations throughout it and needs to have someone add footnotes to the unsourced information in the article.--Paleface Jack (talk) 00:30, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This article is poorly written, underdeveloped and undersourced, and requires significant attention. Most of the article is very poorly written and should be rewritten so that it meets Wikipiedia's style and guideline format. The article is also underdeveloped, with important information such as those on the game's release, and reception being absent from the article. These should be added with proper citations given for its information. The gameplay section is unsourced and needs to be expanded in more detail than what it currently is with proper citations. The media section should be retitled Legacy and more information added to it. Considering the significance of this article (and the impact it had on the game community and spawned film, TV and literature adaptions of the game which for a free game is pretty significant) I'm surprised not a lot of attention has been given to this article and its importance is so low. Hopefully the right person will come along and give it the attention it deserves.--Paleface Jack (talk) 14:52, 14 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merger Proposal[edit]

To not merge, given the uncontested objection with stale discussion for over 5 months; referencing suggests independent notability; readers best served by separate content. Klbrain (talk) 19:38, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I propose merging Ao Oni (film) into this page (Ao Oni). The Ao Oni page is already operating more as a “franchise” page than a page about the game only, which makes sense as there’s not enough written about the game alone to make a full page on it. This means that information about the film can be added without changing the structure of the page significantly.

Additionally, the page for the film is pretty bare, with only a short lead, cast list, and short reception section aside from the long plot description. It won’t overwhelm the Ao Oni page with a lot of new information, and it doesn’t require an entire page of its own. Lathe Foundation (talk) 17:03, 20 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support With the caveat that I think the film is likely notable in Japanese. But until someone finds such sources, it should be redirected. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 07:14, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much for your input! Interestingly enough, the movie doesn’t have its own separate page on Japanese Wikipedia either (which isn’t definite proof that it shouldn’t, but just another piece of evidence). When looking it up after reading your reply, I did see that the JA page had at least four additional sources for info on the movies, which should make their way into the EN page whether we merge or not. • Oppose. Given that the film seems independently notable, I don't think that it's such a short or insignificant article that it should be merged. If the article is somewhat bare-bones, that's okay, that's how a lot of Wikipedia articles are until someone comes along to improve or expand them. SnowFire (talk) 20:17, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
