Not sure I got the formatting right on the rating box, but here goes. The biography section seems fairly short but reasonable, the credits listed are a bit sketchy, and there's no real discussion of the subject's impact on the culture. Sedaka[edit]

A quick search fails to turn up and substantiation for the claim that Neil Sedaka's song "Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen" had any connection to Annette, who would have been 19 years old that year. I see that there's a stub for the song that makes the same claim. Given her age, the claim seems unlikely enough that it really should either have a citation or be removed. I can't trace if this is a spelling error or a little used statement. If it is a statement it should have references to explain it.

During her time as a Mouseketeer, that might have been true, but certainly her assets were well noted by the teenaged male population, especially during the "Beach Blanket" era. I speak from experience here.----

This kind of thing could go into a "media referances" section. There was a mention about her figure in the movie "Grease". Prior to the song "Summer Love" the men were questioning about the figure of the girl and one asked if she was "as big as Annette" to which another replied "no one's as big as Annette". But then someone would demand conformance with wikipedia policy that there would need to be a published third source of proof that the "Annette" mentioned in "Grease" is Annette Funicello.

I'm pretty sure her bust size was a contributor to her popularity, just as much as her personality. I always like to use this to contradict people who make scathing accusations against contemporary Disney starlets. I still remember a Mad Magazine article that spoofed Happy Days (TV series), which contained a panel with Fonzie and Richie watching Annette on The Mickey Mouse Club, making a remark about her bra size being bigger than her mouse ears. ---------User:DanTD (talk) 18:29, 4 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Found the part! It's in her biography, pp 114-115.

"For someone as reserved as I was, it wasn't always easy to pick up a magazine and read references to my newly blossoming figure. Mr Disney preferred that I didn't discuss my measurements, and I was happy to oblige him. It was certainly nice to be noticed for having a good figure, but sometimes the amount of attention mine received seemed - pardon me - out of proportion. Even today when people, men especially, attribute my popularity as a Mouseketeer to my developing bustline, I often feel as if I should point out that I was still fairly flat-chested then, and there were other girl Mouseketeers as "curvaceous," and I use that term loosely, as I was. BUENA VISTA Records[edit]

The name of the record company is BUENA VISTA RECORDS _not_ VISTA. It's clearly stated on the LP jackets, the record labels, and if you google it, you will easily find the BUENAVISTARECORDS.GO.COM page, and given the paucity of acts currently on the label, typing FUNICELLO in the search box redirects to the Disney website where she's indexed in the numerous DVDs still in print.

W5 appearance[edit]

There is nothing in the article about Annette Funicello's recent (2012-10-06) appearance on the Canadian public affairs programme W5 (it was billed as a worldwide exclusive). It was her first appearance on television in years. She can no longer walk or speak, and her husband Glen Holt is still hoping for something that might improve her condition, having already tried just about everything. Peanuts reference?[edit]

Someone needs to comb the Peanuts comic-strip archives for this one. I remember seeing one of those characters (Linus?) saying "Annette Funicello has grown up!".

Just after I wrote the above, I located this on the Los Angeles Times website in the obituary (refers to Annette Funicello's 1st wedding, in 1965):

"On the morning of the wedding, Charles Schulz's 'Peanuts" cartoon strip marked the occasion by showing Snoopy howling, 'I can't stand it! This is terrible! How depressing ... ANNETTE FUNICELLO HAS GROWN UP!'"

Controversy[edit]

Perhaps now is inappropriate, but in a year or so someone should add that she was a spokesperson for the Florida citrus growers (orange growers) as an adult and that also I believe she made several controversial comments about gays (sorry my memory fails me for the specifics). She was quite religious (according to media accounts) and intolerant. Since this did make the papers at the time 80's ? 90's ? it should be included here. I was reading this article through, and nowhere does it mention how BIG a phenomenon she was.

There were paper dolls of her, you could buy novels and comics and books and colouring books. I thought the paper doll pics were pretty cool, because she was marketed with Snow White, Cinderella and Alice! It was like she was a Disney character her self, Disney royalty.
