Plucking Angora Rabbits[edit]

I have a pet French Angora Rabbit, and for him plucking is indeed painless- during molting the fur falls out all over the place in general, and the rabbit sits still through the process. I assume that if it hurt him he wouldn't sit calmly in my lap. It is just like humans running their fingers through their hair and having hairs come out.

Some breeds of Angoras do not naturally shed, namely the Giant and German angoras. For these plucking would be painful, and they are sheared. But when each time I touch the rabbit my hand comes away covered in fur, I can't see plucking hurting him. If you have sources proving otherwise, please share. Evidence of plucking being cruel? See the video located at: https://secure.peta.org/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserAction&id=5171#.UpK1oXWO7Aw.facebook — Preceding unsigned comment added by 131.170.5.4 (talk) 05:45, 25 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't that a giant angora? I agree that it shows that it is painful, but this is besides the point Loggie was making (which was about the French Angora) and explicitly excluded the German and giant angoras. Do we know how this is for the shedding angoras?PinkShinyRose (talk) 00:47, 5 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Removing non-noteworthy "in popular culture" section[edit]

The article had contained an "In Popular Culture" section, wit the following text:

The director, writer, and actor Edward D. Wood, Jr. was known to have a fetish for angora wool sweaters, referenced in his film "Glen or Glenda?". Director Tim Burton, an admirer of Wood's work, referenced this preference in his 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which shows Willy Wonka (played by Johnny Depp, who had also played Wood in Burton's 1994 biopic Ed Wood) passing a room in which pink Angora sheep are being shorn, saying "I'd rather not talk about that one."

This strikes me as non-noteworthy, so I'm (boldly!) removing it. -- Narsil (talk) 16:21, 2 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blanking paragraph 3 of section "Fur production"[edit]

The paragraph about the PETA incident was removed recently for unstated concerns over WP:NPOV. I don't know what the issue was, as it was not mentioned but the specification of an edit summary entry suggests it was in good faith. I undid the revision and hope to start a discussion on the issue. I think the paragraph could be improved on the basis of WP:NPOV by changing the text to: "PETA released a video (possible link) showing what they are concerned about after undercover investigations in China. They were mostly concerned with that the fur can be plucked from live rabbits, inflicting suffering as the rabbit screams in pain, and causing an early death and the conditions in which the rabbits are kept which cause partial balding and red raw bloody wounds. As a result of this several retailers, such as New Look[3] and H&M,[4] suspended the use of Angora in the production of clothing." This shows they are PETAs concerns and may not reflect other peoples opinions. It would also be nice if we could find different opinions from noteworthy people or organisations (possibly the farmers). PinkShinyRose (talk) 19:47, 6 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
