Expansion[edit]
I've expanded a bit. As I mentioned on the Talk:Tripod.com page and for full disclosure, I am an employee of Lycos and a good part of my work involves Tripod and Angelfire. That said, I am also a long-standing wikipedian who has edited a good deal more articles than this. However, I would always appreciate that another contributor to this article makes sure that I don't leak too much of my point of view in. I have tried to make this as unbiased as I can. Weird sentence[edit]
- It was able to accomplish this with relatively low costs initially by requiring moderator review of all member content before it could be accessed as well as extremely low disk quotas.
How does low cost result from moderation and low disk quotas? Wouldn't moderation be a lot more expensive than the lack thereof? Removed for now. -- Beland 19:28, 1 February 2006 (UTC)

Author[edit]

The Name[edit]
Along similar lines to Tripod.com, why did the creators choose Angelfire? Google isn't a great deal of help (it returns a lot of pages on Angelfire that are about names, and pages about angels and fires). Most of the other early dot.com companies had names that reflected a little bit of their original mission, but Angelfire is baffling. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 15:11, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
- I'm fairly certain the name means nothing. The site originally was a combination - and I'm not kidding about this - of free homepages and medical transcription services. The guy that founded the company's wife was a medical transcriptionist. Some of the early logos had a Good/Evil vibe to them, the idea of "Angelfire" was a duality between the two impulses. But I don't know whether that was the original idea or just something that came later. (FYI: I am a senior manager at Lycos, the owners of Angelfire, and have with AF and Tripod for almost ten years. But there are no non-primary sources that I am aware of for AF or Tripod's early history, so nothing to add to Wikipedia.) JRP (talk) 17:21, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
