Dates[edit]

AFAIK the A&K was chartered on 28 May 1845 already (Several Poor's Manuals (e.g. 1878) show that date). The route was not opened in Jan. 1850 but in two segments in 1849:

3 July 1849 to Winthrop, Maine,
27 November 1849 to Waterville.

I replaced a reply on my talk page regarding your question. I'm not 100% sure but I recall that the source I was reading had stated construction was still ongoing in 1849 and I wasn't sure when it was completed, therefore I said by January 1850, the system was open and running. I'll have to check which publication I had read from - this was back before I began referencing facts such as this during my edit sessions. Oh thanks. The reference would be Poor's Manual of Railroads 1860: Chartered, 5/28/1845. Construction started, 7/1847. Danville Junction to Waterville, Maine, 55.00 miles. First Division: Danville Junction to Winthrop, Maine, 20.00 miles, opened, 7/3/1845. Second Division: Winthrop to Waterville, Maine, 35.00 miles, opened, 11/27/1849.
