Assault Allegations[edit]

Over the last week serious accusations against Callaghan have risen to public attention. Several women have come forward, accusing Callaghan of sexual misconduct and assault. Here's a recent video discussing the allegations: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5D1yD-282XE

Callaghan has not yet released a statement, but the accusations seem noteworthy nonetheless.

Maybe this information could be added to the main page in the form of a controversy-section. 2A02:8070:4681:4C00:21D8:A93E:49E:BB1D (talk) 13:29, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I added it to personal life, fdepending on what more info comes out/more reliable sources reporting on it we may want to add a section for it, similar to in Walter Lewin's page. Endated (talk) 14:48, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Rolling Stone just released an article covering the allegations https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/andrew-callaghan-hbo-this-place-rules-sexual-misconduct-allegations-1234658336/ perhaps this can be used to source a section regarding the allegations against Callaghan? Rolling Stone's reporting on anything but culture (music, movies, etc.) is no longer considered reliable on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources#Rolling_Stone_(politics_and_society,_2011%E2%80%93present) I will go ahead and remove the citation until we can find something more credible. Here's the link to the original accusation video by Caroline Elise: https://www.tiktok.com/@cornbreadasserole/video/7185239799916203306
here's a video (part of a thread) by a second woman about her negative experience with Callaghan: https://www.tiktok.com/@moldyfreckle/video/7186164859233504554
Ethan Klein of h3h3Productions claims to have personally spoken to Callaghan about the accusations.
I'm not sure if any of these statements could be considered credible by Wikipedia. 2A02:8070:4681:4C00:563:AAEC:7358:54AB (talk) 16:31, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, none of those are considered credible by Wikipedia because they're primary sources. Wikipedia is basically a collection of what mainstream media considers to be true, not a collection of actual truths, as backwards as that seems. Planetjanet (talk) 01:23, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The A.V. Club is now cited as the source for the sex pest claims, and it's a reliable source as per WP:RSP, but the A.V. Club article itself still cites Rolling Stone, as do all of the other ones I can find on Google News. I'm not sure if this meets Wikipedia's reliability standards. But I'll leave it up because I just don't know. Could someone who is familiar with what to do in this situation please comment? Planetjanet (talk) 05:57, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rolling Stone should not be used for something like this. We shouldn’t be using sources that are basing their reporting on Rolling Stone either. Thriley (talk) 06:06, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • He has responded to the accusations in a statement made via his "legal representative" to Variety: https://variety.com/2023/digital/news/andrew-callaghan-responds-allegations-sexual-assault-1235488040/. I don't know what he meant by "repeated requests for money" (is he trying to say the women were demanding money from him?), so I didn't know how to summarise it and just left the full quote in. If/when he clarifies what that means I think it will be easier to summarise it in less words. Endwise (talk) 00:00, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I just read talk pages but I believe you should delete the part about money, if not the entire accusation. To the point, it could seem unfair to Callaghan to perhaps imply he responded with vague and/or unsubstantiated claims. sarcasm: It seems objectively inaccurate but being a noteworthy figure and the target of an angry mob, his sexual encounters around the time he was 18 are important to humanity's future. /sarcam. A reminder to editors, this is not about mainstream media vs. "the truth," it's about evidence, if there is none, do you wonder why? 2001:558:6014:7C:6446:DBF0:DB69:B524 (talk) 00:51, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
i don't want to edit this, sorry, but to answer you, callaghan showed text messages with the first "accuser" asking for money to pay for the therapy sessions re: 18 year old drunken consensual sex. Is this not a stunt by channel 5 tp demonstrate to stupid people are? If so bravo 2001:558:6014:7C:6446:DBF0:DB69:B524 (talk) 01:06, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Reading this quote was confusing for me when I tried to figure out what was going on with him lately without any context.
I saw that someone's youtube comment on his apology video pointed to a summarizing reddit thread[1], which then linked to a screenshot of the message requesting the money[2], and this seems a very different kind of message than what that quote might imply out of context.
I have no idea how any of this works on wikipedia, and obviously some random screenshot posted on reddit isn't a credible source, so I'm open to hearing how best to resolve this. Japhir (talk) 21:54, 9 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Should we make a subsection to cover this? Pumpkineatingme (talk) 20:22, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Should we add something about the video he released? Endated (talk) 12:58, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There's a sentence about it there now. Possibly it should have its own paragraph if it's getting drowned out by the quote from Variety. Endwise (talk) 13:18, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There have been more allegations regarding him "stealthing" women (secretly removing the condom during sex). MickRide808 (talk) 00:20, 19 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Political Views[edit]

There is a recent Lex Fridman podcast with him (issue 425, April 13); with interesting political views (and his life story, etc.).--Ralfdetlef (talk) 05:33, 14 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
