Serbian/Bosnian[edit]

Given the multiple reversions on this page over the last few days, I wanted to come to the talk page here to try to reach some sort of consensus. Per an AP writer in the Denver Post, Zolotic's family comes from Bosnia-Herzegovina (https://www.denverpost.com/2021/07/26/anastasija-zolotic-tokyo-olympics-us-taekwondo/). Per Danas and Voice of America, Zolotic's family is ethnically Serbian (https://www.danas.rs/ljudi/anastasija-zolotic-obecala-da-ce-biti-sampionka/ ; https://www.glasamerike.net/a/anastasija-zolotic-sjedinjejne-drzave-zlato-olimpijske-igre/5982140.html). All of these are unambiguously reliable sources by Wikipedia's standards. If we want to avoid more reversions, I think we should mention either both facts (Serbian family from Bosnia-Herzegovina) or neither (and leave her parents and ethnic background out of it). Lol. Blog spam 3rd rate Serbian news websites aren't reliable for sure. AP is. Her name and parents' names are multi-ethic, not just Serbian. "Don't include her parental background on an encyclopedia when she has a unique name for American standards"--- geez, you nationalists are something else. When you find a source where her or her family specifically states she is Serbian, be my guest. Until then, she's still Bosnian. inb4 God was a Serb Poggers6969420 (talk) 02:26, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your Denver source is fine and no one wants to remove it. I am still a bit puzzled about your opposition to any mention of her family's Serbian heritage despite multiple reliable sources confirming it. If for some reason you don't like the Danas (newspaper) source, there's the Voice of America source. (Would a construction like "Her parents are immigrants from Bosnia-Herzegovina and she is of Serbian background" make you any happier?) As for the last bits, I see you're new here and to help you familiarise yourself with how wikipedia works (in the spirit of Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers) you may want to look at Wikipedia:Assume good faith, possibly Wikipedia:Disruptive editing, and most especially Wikipedia:No personal attacks. I don't want you to run into trouble here right at the start of your editing career. And not that it matters, but I'm neither Serbian nor a nationalist, so please don't make assumptions about other editors. PhainetaiMoi (talk) 15:38, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not opposed to it, there's just no evidence. The sources you cited are bottom-of-the-barrel Serbian newspapers that are struggling to makes ends meet. Those 2 sources just assume Serbian as many Serb outlets like to do, the family never said anything. Again, it's a multi-ethnic name and so are her parents' names. If she was a Serb, she wouldn't be on record saying Former Yugoslavia and Bosnia in her interviews to the Olympic Committee. Don't you think?U Not a Serb? lmao, okay. You have a Greek poet name and have edited this way more than me and even linked 2 sources in all Serbian transcript. I'm sure you're the dude on his mobile phone/VPN making anonymous edits too saying she's Albanian and complaining about American government in the Yugoslav wars too. I don't care if I offended you, I didn't do anything wrong but delete your lies. Nobody else would be this dedicated. What's wrong with just saying her lineage stems from where her parents were born? She is literally born to Bosnian parents, nothing else is on record. Until then, "good luck". https://www.nbcolympics.com/news/meet-athletes-anastasija-zolotic Poggers6969420 (talk) 23:07, 4 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think you may just be confused about the sources (you mentioned something before about being unfamiliar with Serbian media, which is fair). If they were bottom-of-the-barrel sources as you say, you would have an excellent point, but if you look a little bit, you'll find that Danas is one of the two Serbian newspapers of record and that Voice of America is a major, well-respected international source funded by the American government. Does this change your opinion? PhainetaiMoi (talk) 00:21, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Danas is one of the worst newspapers in Serbia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_newspapers_in_Serbia) and a Serbian-based Voice of America doesn't change the fact that her or her family never said they are Serbian. A Serbian blogger assuming Serbian ethnicity does not equal fact. Anyways, Imma head out. You talking about good faith but you literally ignoring facts. "Not a Serb"- links Serbian sources in all Serbian transcript, fangirls an assumed Serbian girl for months, Greek poem name, knows all about Serbian media, etc. Lmao. Have a good rest of your nationalist life, and good luck like you said. Poggers6969420 (talk) 18:28, 5 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
