Separate Article[edit]

There should probably be a separate article for Ammonitida which has a more precise scientific meaning than the general term ammonite. Meanwhile it might be preferable to use the suborder, Ammonitina to avoid confustion.J.H.McDonnell (talk) 21:52, 30 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ammonite vs Ammonitida[edit]

Ammonite and Ammonitida refer to different things, different concepts. Ammonite, as it has to do with cephalopods, is a general term without taxonomic meaning for any ammononitid or more loosely for any ammonoid. Ammonitida on the otherhand is a specific ammonoid order with specific meaning and unique diagnostic characters.

To avoid confusion and misunderstanding please leave to two subjects under separate articles. Redirecting Ammonitida to Ammonite simply gives the wrong idea. J.H.McDonnell (talk) 01:25, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
