Who's On First?[edit]

This entry on the "American Football Association" contends that the AFA was the first soccer league in the U.S. Another Wikipedia entry asserts that the "American League of Professional Football" was the first soccer league in the U.S. Which is right? Founding date[edit]

At this point I have been able to locate several articles that state directly that the AFA was founded in 1884. The New York Times article mentioned here does not directly say 1882 was the year the AFA was founded. The article also discusses baseball. I believe the author may have simply made an error and could have been refering to the 'American Association' of baseball which was in fact started in 1882. Regarding the above, the founding date of 1884 is overwhelmingly consistent over numerous decades and countless sources. The previous citation is erroneous and I have used one of the more reputable sources in its place. The 'AFA league' from 1884-88 appears around the web yet there is no documentation to support this despite the statement. Libro0 (talk) 18:46, 29 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
