A. Coulter commentary on J. Edwards irrelevant to an encyclopedic entry on the A.C.U.[edit]

While intended as a "telling" example of behavior at an ACU conference, this remark and the observation that "many" applauded it seem to more concern A. Coulter than the A.C.U. qua organization. 19:03, 15 July 2007 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.224.174.87 (talkcontribs)

General Editing[edit]

Hi,

I'm working on improving this page. I've noticed some of the source links don't quite work given the ACU website has changed. I'll work on fixing that and adding other sources to make sure the article is based on reliable sources. I also started to add some subheadings to help organize the article, and hopefully make it easier to focus in and add some more pertinent information.

I think it could also be useful to expand on the ratings section, explaining how the numerical system works and maybe giving some examples or exemplary cases. Linking to the ratings would also be a good idea.

If anyone has any other suggestions on how to improve this article, it would be super helpful and appreciated.

That's great, thanks. Just make sure that the sources you add actually verify the cited content. Here, for example, the link you gave doesn't say that ACU is the oldest conservative lobbying organization in the country. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 18:11, 12 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dan Schneider, executive director of the American Conservative Union[edit]

Dan Schneider, executive director of the American Conservative Union, spoke at the Feb 23 2017 spring CPAC convention and denounced the alt-right. Seems this should be a part of the article.--Wikipietime (talk) 19:38, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I added this info to CPAC under the controversies section. I think if this page builds out a "leadership" section or some other relating to "other political movements" that it should be included there. ElonSpaceX (talk) 14:11, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

FedEx needs expansion[edit]

Where is the follow through and details? Shakedown?--Wikipietime (talk) 12:57, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Battle Line Publication in Question[edit]

This section lacks a source. ACU's own website lacks content where one would likely find such publications, if they are available online. See that negative space here: http://conservative.org/conservative-battleline/ If contemporaneous sources can be located, more information about Battle Line's content and purpose should be included. Otherwise, it should be moved to a history section alongside bygone initiatives and activities. ElonSpaceX (talk) 14:08, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Or just removed. It's clearly not very noteworthy. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 23:13, 7 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

New Right[edit]

ElonSpaceX, please don't edit war. I don't understand your edit summary when you re-reverted to remove the bit about the ACU being founded as part of the New Right. This seems to be supported by the cited source. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 17:56, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DrFleischman, thank you for effectively monitoring this page. Your work is appreciated. This section has received multiple edits based on the source's omission of ACU in the article. This is critical. The source states the New Right originated in 1974 which post-dates ACU founding. Furthermore, the source pre-dates the proliferation of the term as a descriptor for white-supremacy/nationalism. ElonSpaceX (talk) 21:22, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DrFleischman, further evidence of the ambiguity of this term exists in a 1977 WaPo article describing ACU as the "Old Right," found here. ElonSpaceX (talk) 21:36, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hm, you're correct. Now I believe I dreamed that I verified the New Right content. You know you're in trouble when Wikipedia starts invading your dreams... --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 22:21, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Oldest" conservative lobbying group?[edit]

Are there independent RS that can substantiate this? This is currently a self-sourced claim by the organization. Snooganssnoogans (talk) 15:22, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I agree the current sourcing is inadequate, though it appears there are independent sources for this. Here are some candidates: US News & World Report, Albequerque Journal, Courier & Press, and The Washington Times. FWIW there are also reputable outlets that distance themselves from the ACU's claim, including Politico and CBS News. --Dr. Fleischman (talk) 17:15, 19 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Recent turn[edit]

Should be something on how since 2016 it "has evolved from a fractious meeting of Republicans and libertarians into a celebration of the 45th president and the airing of his grievances".
