Merging[edit]

As Roy's Motel and Café is all that's standing in Amboy, California and Roy's and the "town" are all part of one property with one owner, that makes them in effect the same subject. This seems like a natural merge. --Marriedtofilm 05:21, 19 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Last time iwas in amboy in 2008, there was much moire standing than Roys.... Besides Roy;s Cafe (with gas pumps), there's the old hotel next door (im assuming thats part of Roys but i dont know for sure) The School is there, there's a church, a post office, and several houses...truye, many of htem are in disrepair, or were then at least.. Agree[edit]

I too feel the Roy's article can be merged w/ amboy, perhaps it can be a subheader within the Amboy page.

It will take some piecework as there's a ton of overlapping info. --Oakshade 06:14, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Agree -- Merge I've read both articles (from Pixar's CARS). Both are article stubs and part of each other. The lack of significant length in the one article really makes its inclusion with the other more appropriate. The one is a set of paragraphs of the Amboy article. I see no real reason for someone to read what is esentially a single article in two parts. -- Jason Palpatine 22:26, 24 November 2006 (UTC) (speak your mind | contributions)[reply]

Disagree[edit]

There IS more to Amboy than Roy's. Amboy is much larger than the property wich of wich Roy's is only a part. Eg. the crater, the salt mines etc. Are outisde the property bought by Mr. Okura that includes Roy's.

Perhaps they should be better split up between the town and Roy's, but it's not because a single place dominates a town, that either can not be described without containing the other's full description. Surely they are related somewhat, but that goes for any place in any town. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.118.142.27 (talk) 05:01, 21 December 2006 (UTC).[reply]

There's definatly more in amboy than just Roy's. I was there about 3 weeks ago, and have some pictures. Admittedly, the current owner who bot hte place 2-3 years ago has restored much of the town, the stuff he's restored was already there. I offer my Amboy Gallery as evidence. I'd be willing to offer my pictures for use as wikipedia, but would like to retain commercial rights to them. I do already have them Creative Commons'd for noncomercial use. You guys up on how that works? Alienburrito 00:41, 25 July 2007 (UTC)alienburrito

Ok, i looked around at Wikikedia Commons and discovered that permission for commercial use must be allowed. I've got my pictures licenced right now wit a noncomercial CC licence, with a note to contact me if you're interested in comercial use. I'd like to retain that, but im not clear how that works. I suppose i should dig around more over at Wikikedia Commons and find out. Alienburrito 04:55, 25 July 2007 (UTC)alienburrito[reply]

Traveling Through Amboy[edit]

My husband and I had the joy of stumbling into Amboy, CA. We just wanted to get off 40 and explore and get away from the hustle and bustle of the freeway rat race.

We pulled into Amboy in seach of a Cafe and someplace to eat. We found the Cafe, but no food. I was amazed at the peacefulness we found in the town and it's own majestic beauty. The trains rumbling by every 15 minutes or so. We explored the old homes built in the 40's. I took some fantastic pictures. My husband was enthralled with the old T-Hanger and the runways. We have our own plane and would love to fly in some day. The bathrooms were up and running and so huge. I had forgotten how accomodating Service Stations were in the 50's. Even a tour bus stopped in, so people could use the facilities as scarce as they were.

I purchased a hat and t-shirt at a very reasonable price. Water was for sale also.

We pass through the area every year, but next year, we will definitely come through Amboy once again to see the progress in the town.

Sincerely, Jack and Sally from Palominas, AZ

  • It really was a fun little place, wasn't it? Even the graffiti in the rest rooms was interesting. People from all over the world left their marks on those walls. We'll never see the like again and it's reassuring to know that someone has taken up the challenge of fixing it up. I in turn am taking up the challenge once more of fixing this article up. It's really been messed up in terms of style, grammar and layout. For that matter, I wonder if Mr. Okuna could use a hand in fixing up the joint...? Man, that would be fun! --PMDrive1061 (talk) 19:01, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Pisga Crater /Amboy Crater correction[edit]

I am familiar with the area. been through there several times. The pciture on the page is amboyu crater, not pisgah crater -

Amboy crater is 3-4 miles west of Amboy. Pisgah crater is much further west, about 26 miles, according to google maps. Pisgah crater exists, but doesnt have any association with Amboy really. http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Pisgah+Crater&geocode=&dirflg=&daddr=amboy+crater&f=d&sll=34.748242,-116.375556&sspn=0.01414,0.041885&ie=UTF8&z=11
