County[edit]

Looking at the file POP_PLACES_DECI.TXT from the U.S. Census, updated 7 June 2005, Alum Creek is listed as being in Kanawha County, West Virginia. That article indicates that only part of the community is in Kanawha; Rambot thinks it is in Lincoln County, West Virginia. Presumably is it split between the two, so I changed the article to indicate that. -- Beland 16:01, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You need to change the article again, Alum Creek, WV was originally located on the east side of Coal River in Kanawha County. The origin of the Alum Creek name was given by formations of Alum found in the rock formations along the banks of a tributary that flows into Coal River. This was known as Alum Creek. When the C&O Railway was built along the Coal River from St. Albans (Coalsmouth), to near the branch of Alum Creek, they built the Alum Creek Depot in or about 1910. The community of Alum Creek was formed on December 7, 1910, which replaced the community of Rome, WV. The United States Post Office of Alum Creek, WV, has always been located in Kanawha County of West Virginia. In later years, Business started springing up on the Lincoln County side of Coal River and they were adopted into the Alum Creek community. Within the last 40 years or so, the Alum Creek Lions Club installed "Welcome to Alum Creek, WV" signs which were placed some distances away from where the C&O Railway Depot was located. This was done because of location conveniences and not the community boundaries. -- User:Uwootenc 22:20, 11 January 2006 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.81.205.252 (talk)
