== Bac ha cooking instructions should be added to this page. Apparently it can cause irritating reactions when consumed raw. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.7.100.52 (talk) 01:24, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Alocasia odora is not edible.[edit]

This article identifies Alocasia odora with Doc mung/Bac ha in Vietnam without enough sources to prove it. It seems quite dangerous to do so according to the information I have gathered.

  • Doc mung/Bac ha = Colocasia gigantea (not A. odora) [1][2][3]
  • A. odora (called Ray) can be used as medicine for the treatment of common cold in North Vietnam (MATSUDA M & NAWATA E 2002).
  • Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (Japan) warned that A. odora (Kuwazuimo), which looks similart to edible C. gigantea (Hasuimo) or C. esculenta (Satoimo), had caused several cases of food poisoning by accidental consumption. [4][5][6]
  • There is also an English article on toxicities of A. odora. [7]

I am sure the current article needs to be edited all over. Are there any objections? --Zumyzumy (talk) 04:30, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
