Allens law firm[edit]

I undeleted the article - this law firm is definitely notable: see for example Big 6 law firms -- enochlau (talk) 05:15, 6 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article was on the articles needing to be wikified category (not by me) so I've wikified it and generally cleaned it up. Tellyaddict 16:07, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Allens (law firm)Allens – On 1 May 2012 the firm changed its name from "Allens Arthur Robinson" to simply "Allens". This name had already been taken on Wikipedia so I've temporarily changed it to Allens (law firm) but ideally it should just be Allens. Davidbradbury (talk) 23:37, 30 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Allens is now a disambiguation page for two Australian companies. I don't think a further move is required. Harro5 00:37, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Would 'Allens LLP' not be neater? Has the legal name of the firm also changed?Rangoon11 (talk) 00:00, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
LLP isn't included for any of the List of 100 largest law firms as far as I can see. Allens (law firm) and Allens (confectionary) are standardised. Just my opinion. Harro5 00:37, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ashurst is at LLP. However the addition of 'plc', 'limited' etc is fairly common for companies when the common name is taken, to avoid ... (company) eg Rolls-Royce plc. Rangoon11 (talk) 00:58, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Allens is not an LLP. It is a general partnership formed under the laws of New South Wales. The name of the firm is simply Allens. Davidbradbury (talk) 01:36, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Loss of that precision can be helpful to no one, anywhere, ever. Just glance at these DAB pages to see how many entities or topics use the form "Allen" or others that are easily confused with it: Allen, Alan, Allan. Yes, all DAB pages. They include entries like Alans and Allen's. Can we consider the real-world needs of the hapless reader, please? NoeticaTea? 01:54, 1 May 2012 (UTC) ♪[reply]
  • Oppose Allens should redirect to Allen, since "Allens" is the plural of Allen. The disambiguation entries can lie there. 70.49.124.225 (talk) 02:54, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is the law firm more prominent than the other two entities listed in Allens? —Tamfang (talk) 17:31, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As to prominence: Allens (confectionery) was viewed 583 times in the last 90 days; Allen's was viewed 840 times; Allens (law firm) was viewed (under the title Allens Arthur Robinson) 4,799 times. The dab page Allens was viewed 273 times over the same timeframe. (Note that there is also an Allens (department store) redirect page which was viewed 192 times).

All told, the non-law firm pages (including the dab page) were viewed 1,888 times, to 4,799 for the law firm. Whether that makes the law firm the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC for "Allens" is a separate question, but it does certainly seem to be more widely viewed on WP. Dohn joe (talk) 21:15, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Allens (confectionery) concerns a Nestle sub-brand only sold in one market. The subject of this article is a major international law firm. I think there is a strong case to be made that this is the primary topic for Allens. However if the consensus is not, I would much prefer "Allens LLP" to "Allens (law firm)" (per Apple Inc., Acer Inc., Ashurst LLP etc), which is clumsy and unnecessary.Rangoon11 (talk) 23:26, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
As noted above, Allens is not an LLP. It is a general partnership formed under the laws of New South Wales. The name of the firm is simply Allens. Davidbradbury (talk) 01:36, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thos stats do not take into account the use of "Allens" as the plural of "Allen", and linking to some "Allen" via a piped link. 70.49.124.225 (talk) 03:23, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – "Allens" is ridiculously ambiguous and "Allens (law firm)" is perfectly sensible, with just the required amount of precision. Dicklyon (talk) 03:52, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - Dicklyon hit the nail square on the head.--ukexpat (talk) 17:47, 2 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
