Dates[edit]

Are a couple of the dates wrong in the Background section? 19th century perhaps in first line? And the second paragraph begins "in 1938" which doesn't sound right. I don't know enough to change them, just thought they can't be right.81.102.15.200 (talk) 14:15, 9 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now I have read the Hervey article, isn't there a bigger problem - copyright violation? It seems to be copied from Hervey's article with just a few words changed. So is the Perceval article.81.102.15.200 (talk) 09:41, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't know about the Perceval article - it doesn't seem to be and cites several other sources not Hervey? The paragraphs here that are citing the Hervey article were intended to be summaries of the salient points and are grouped together and ordered differently and worded in summary form (although you say only a few words changed). The Hervey article is a long and discursive 31 pages whereas the summary of it cited here seems to be about 2 pages worth or so (which was more than I'd originally intended, but kept finding salient points spread throughout the article). If it seems too much/too similar (and I did wonder myself where the limit would be, but I wasn't copying text but writing it in summary form which took a LONG time and a LOT of reorganizing), feel free of course to cut/reword or if you have any specific suggestion how much you feel needs cutting/changing. I didn't mean the Perceval article came from Hervey - it is a copy of a recent article by Hugh Gault in The Psychologist. If you google Gault Perceval you should find it (it won't let me post a link here). Re ALFS - I realize it is difficult when you are using a single source, and there don't seem to be many sources for ALFS, but I will try and find something to dilute the Hervey a bit.81.102.15.200 (talk) 11:46, 9 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ALFS as a Pioneer of Peer Support[edit]

Except for the unreferenced claim made in Pat Deegan's article, I am not aware of any evidence that AFLS engaged in peer support in any systematic way. Surely the members of the society shared their experiences and offered each other sympathy, but this does not seem to have been a reason for the formation of the society nor one of its formal activities. I suspect that Pat Deegan has inferred this by the nature of the AFLS, and unless supporting evidence is produced I think this should be edited out or at least qualified in some way.
