Editing Allauddin Khan's birth year[edit]

First of all, thanks for pointing me to WP:ELNEVER. I'm evidently new at editing Wikipedia and your correction was a welcome lesson. However, I just stumbled across another video interview of Ali Akbhar Khan who also asserts that his father lived till the ripe old age of 110. That, and the fact that Allauddin Khan was state-honoured by the Govt. of India upon completing his 100 years should be facts compelling enough for us to believe that the elder Ustad might indeed have been born in 1862. What do you think? Vivewiki (talk) 18:59, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The full comment on age in The New Grove is as follows: "His remarkable life story has contributed to his legendary status and is also the subject of some controversy; he is believed by some to have lived to the age of 110, although the conjectural birth date of 1881 is more likely."
Clayton certainly looked at known life dates of Allauddin for that estimate (details are not added). I would wonder if Allaudin allegedly fathered Ali Akbar aged 60 and Ali Abkar was 17 when Aashish was born. My guess is also that for the Indian government Khan was a prestige citizen and accuracy wasn't paramount for them, especially considering how patchy the birth records must have been in 19th century India and that a centenarian is highly regarded. I've seen some uncertainty in birth dates for Vilayat Khan too, and he was born much later. I'd rather rely on the estimate from the expert than the celebratory film. The probability alone that someone lives until 110 years is remote, which gives me pause. Hekerui (talk) 19:33, 12 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the clarification. I agree that makes a lot of sense. Vivewiki (talk) 06:38, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I stayed at Maihar for a month in 1970 and listened to Baba playing the sarod. I was always told then that he was 108 years old, and he certainly looked frail. That is until he started playing! Lily West —Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.0.27.159 (talk) 07:18, 16 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

References[edit]

After the lead, very little of this article is referenced/verified. I have some knowledge of the material, and there's nothing far fetched included. Nevertheless, if anyone can verify the material with secondary sources, it would be best. Help out please! Thanks. Tapered (talk) 07:01, 28 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Misspelling[edit]

"Naquara" is a misspelling. Please fix. 173.88.241.33 (talk) 00:29, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

According to [1] it is spelled "naquara". What would you suggest ? Dead.rabbit (talk) 01:04, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
