Naming[edit]

Could this page be moved, to comply with wikipedia's naming policy? Absolutely nobody calls it "Algerian amphibious transport dock Kalaat Béni Abbès" outside of en.wikipedia, and sites which copy en.wikipedia. Meanwhile many reliable sources call it "Kalaat Beni Abbes" (with or without diacritics), and that's a redlink. Shall we move the page? 176.24.58.125 (talk) 12:29, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose due to conflicting policies. Please read WP:NC-SHIPS about naming policy. If you have suggestions about naming policy for ship articles, please raise them here. Llammakey (talk) 12:37, 22 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your comment! Alas, I think that approach might be problematic, for two reasons:
1. NC-SHIPS is a guideline, not a policy. WP:AT is a policy. Did you have some other "conflicting policy" in mind?
2. To the extent that a guideline requires articles to have a name that's not used by any of the sources, and that's not used at all in the outside world, that guideline is bollocks. I am happy to go along with NC-SHIPS in other respects, ie. when it's compatible with wikipedia policy and, more importantly, compatible with the real world.

As stated, please raise your issues there. Per WP:AT in the first paragraph: When titling articles in specific fields, or with respect to particular problems, there is often previous consensus that can be used as a precedent. Look to the guideline pages referenced. Changing this article's title has ramifications for many others. You seem to be wiki-lawyering me, meaning you have extensive knowledge of Wikipedia but are hiding behind an IP. Any further discussion here will not be considered in good faith. Alleged Incident[edit]

The 'Algerian-Israeli naval incident' has no independent reference. Did it actually happen or is it fiction? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A00:23C8:7507:5201:1D8F:FC40:409B:1B57 (talk) 21:06, 3 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
