Did You Know
A fact from this article appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the "Did you know?" column on March 3, 2010.
The text of the entry was: Did you know ... that comedy writer Al Jean, who has been awarded with four Emmy Awards for his work on The Simpsons, graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics?

Mike Reiss[edit]

Mike Reiss actually makes the comment about the Family Guy opening scene on the commentary for Lisa's Sax. Also, it is obviously an All in the Family parody.

Family Guy[edit]

Why does there seem to be this obsession on the internet with who does and who doesn't like Family Guy? Does it really matter? Rubber cat 21:33, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Virgin nerd rage FTW! Seriously though, the thing that ticks me off is the snarky, nonsensical comments from Matt Stone and Trey Parker. And Al Jean never had anything positive to contribute to the Simpsons, so he irks me anyway. Other than that, I agree, Matt Groening and Seth MacFarlane are fairly friendly and their rivalry is "affectionate". What's the fuss all about? --78.16.24.52 20:46, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia revision[edit]

Al Jean's dad couldn't have been the inspiration for Homer Simpson since Jean didn't work on the Tracy Ullman show, where Matt Groening created the characters. Jean started working on the Simpsons after the spin-off, stand-alone series started. In the late 80's, when the Simpson family was created, Jean was still working on ALF. See his IMDB page. MrCheshire 19:36, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Al Jean himself denied that his father resembled Homer Simpson, which can be heard in the DVD commentary for Season 9 in the episode "Lisa's Sax". Jean actually comments how although most of the information on him in Wikipedia is accurate, his father bares no resemblance to Homer and has a full set of hair. --Acefox 19:52, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

This article is in decent shape, but it needs more work before it becomes a Good Article.

  1. Is it well written?
    A. The prose is clear and concise, and the spelling and grammar are correct:
    Well done.
    B. It complies with the manual of style guidelines for lead sections, layout, words to watch, fiction, and list incorporation:
In the lead, please link "Teen Angel" to its correspondence article, as at the moment it stands out as a disambiguation. Same section, "The Simpsons" should be linked once.
    Check.
  2. Is it verifiable with no original research, as shown by a source spot-check?
    A. It contains a list of all references (sources of information), presented in accordance with the layout style guideline:
Nothing biggie, but maybe adding an accessdate on Ref. 7 might help.
    B. Reliable sources are cited inline. All content that could reasonably be challenged, except for plot summaries and that which summarizes cited content elsewhere in the article, must be cited no later than the end of the paragraph (or line if the content is not in prose):
    C. It contains no original research:
    D. It contains no copyright violations nor plagiarism:
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. It addresses the main aspects of the topic:
    B. It stays focused on the topic without going into unnecessary detail (see summary style):
  4. Is it neutral?
It represents viewpoints fairly and without editorial bias, giving due weight to each:
  5. Is it stable?
It does not change significantly from day to day because of an ongoing edit war or content dispute:
  6. Is it illustrated, if possible, by images?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid non-free use rationales are provided for non-free content:
    B. Images are relevant to the topic, and have suitable captions:
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
Not that much to do! If the concerns above can be answered, I will pass the article. Good luck with improving this article!

DVD Commentary[edit]

Hi, whoever deleted my relevant information on the DVD commentary needs to get a life, that was a good tidbit of information that doesn't need to be verified from a source because anyone with a brain knows where the information came from by reading the word DVD commentary. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.27.204.200 (talk) 11:25, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

1. Please read WP:CIVIL
2. Nobody mentioned it was unverified. I said it was original research and trivia.
3. "In fact, he is the most frequent audio commenter out of the entire first 13 DVD seasons." - Is not sourced to anything specific, therefore counts as OR. Does he actually say that he has been on more commentaries than anybody else?
4. It's not notable. Him being on more commentaries than anybody else is, but unless he says it here this example is fairly tivial.

I should also point out that information added to wikipedia needs to be verifiable. Okay, the source is obvious, but to verfiy it, I would have to count it all up myself, and it's not like it's clear cut that Al Jean has done the most. Matt Groening has also done quite a few commentaries. -- Scorpion0422 00:53, 16 April 2011 (UTC) these awful, wretched bureaucrats — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:3BD8:4D90:CDD6:5056:3C46:FDEE (talk) 19:50, 12 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
