images?[edit]

a noted visual artist without an image in the whole article. Anyone? Manytexts (talk) 09:36, 4 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

tks Slowking4 - does that mean I/ someone can pop one or two in? Manytexts (talk) 12:58, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Have added an image from Wikimedia commons in exhibitions section Edinart (talk) 19:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Again there is not a single image showing her work in this article, save for a tiny photo down at the bottom of the page. Is there any way to get permission to show a small image of one of her large paintings? --Prairieplant (talk) 05:43, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

EL[edit]

that was a blog with a video interview of the artist, primary source material. perfectly fine EL. Slowking4 †@1₭ 21:39, 25 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Continuity of years, places lived[edit]

This article has much to confuse a reader. If she was exhibiting in a NYC gallery in the late 1950s, was she already living in NYC, that is before 1963? When did she move from Canada, place of her birth, to New York City, or to Baltimore, if that is true? Did someone mean to say she was most connected to Taos NM where she died? Or to Santa Fe NM? I have no sources for her biography, so would someone who does, get the career section to make sense? I deleted sentences that were contradictions to what followed. Is there enough material to write a Personal Life section, to trace where she lived? And of course some images of her work in a gallery or just scattered in the article, if those are available. --Prairieplant (talk) 18:59, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see, lots of vandalism the day she is featured in the Google doodle. Maybe the article has to be rebuilt after that. I put the Personal Life section back, see if it lasts the day. --Prairieplant (talk) 19:28, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Google Sketch[edit]

I kind of take offense to it being stated that google was misrepresenting her art by having vertical bands; all of googles doodles stiil have the word represented somehow, here it was through the presence of the six bands in the same place as the letters would be. They weren't misrepresenting her, they were honouring her work in a manner which fit how they honour with their doodles. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.69.149.119 (talk) 22:46, 22 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So noted. Check out the text now, see if that makes more sense, unsigned. --Prairieplant (talk) 00:18, 23 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Doodle as important part of her legacy[edit]

Obviously one of the most important artists of the 20th century is remembered significantly by a doodle. I'm removing this because it is undue and trivial to her legacy. Please also see the discussion at WT:XX. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 11:02, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Two editors disagree with you. Your reasons are rather minor. Google doodles bring much attention to an article on Wikipedia and the subject of the article. Your opinion on most important artists of the 20th century seems shared by Google, but not everyone else is up on every person. I put it back. If you believe this is Trivia, then perhaps you will not revert a third time. --Prairieplant (talk) 11:21, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
At least 2 editors at this point support leaving it in...Modernist (talk) 11:28, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and at least two editors who have policy support disagree with including it. See WP:Trivia. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 12:02, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Take your complaints up with Google or the Foundation and read this WP:OWN...Modernist (talk) 12:05, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, what are you on about? I don't object to the fact that she was featured in a doodle, just that it is relevant to her biography. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 12:12, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You're wrong and heve you read this: WP:OWN?...Modernist (talk) 12:13, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You are aware that you reverted my edits after only a few minutes. I don't think you should be linking WP:OWN. Even more telling were the reverts at Paul Signac. -- CFCF 🍌 (email) 12:23, 7 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agnes sister[edit]

How do I fix the spelling of my grandmother's name? Or will someone change it? It's spelled Maribel ...thanks Smsires100 (talk) 03:07, 2 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Smsires100:, I realize that having your grandmother's name misspelled must be very frustrating for you. Here's how this works on Wikipedia - Facts like dates, places, and name-spellings are (ideally) backed up by a reliable source, and shouldn't be changed unless there is greater evidence, with equally reliable sources, that it is incorrect. The sentence with your sister's name is referenced to page 237 of Agnes Martin by Frances Morris. Unfortunately I don't have access to that book to check whether the spelling has been transcribed correctly. Do you have other published sources that give her name? I'm afraid that family lore, private unpublished letters, and genealogy websites will not suffice. If you have sources, please copy the following text and use it on this page to request help,

Mysterious quote[edit]

"From music people accept pure emotion, but from art they demand explanation" This i a quote i often read on the internet, supposedly from Agnes Martin. But I have never found a good source on it. It is among others used in this youtube video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=phYyRNrhZwc Do anyone know if she said that, or if it is a misquote?128.39.132.148 (talk) 13:33, 7 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

connection to New Mexico[edit]

I think it would be worthwhile to add this as a section because right now it is unclear from the language where she is from and why she is so closely associated with New Mexico. She was also part of a movement of many artists moving to New Mexico so it might be good to add a section close to the end on it. (Mightymango111 (talk))
