Vanity Edits[edit]

Guys, please refrain from adding your names to this wikipedia post. Let's keep the focus on the school. A few years back I put a lot of effort into making this a nice page, but it keeps wandering back silly comments about individual students, taking discussion away from the trends of ABRHS itself. MCAS Scores[edit]

This page has a crazy amount of POV and recent info, such as Proscenium Circus shows and only having teachers from the Math Departnemnt as notable teachers (nothing against Marshall and Noeth). Is there any way to get some history and clean this up? Speech Team section is skimpy for the numerous awards, as is most of the academic teams, though the arts get their fair share. Notability[edit]

Guys, don't add too much unwarranted self importance. Only notable accomplishments by the school should be added so the article retains it's formality. I am also skeptic of keeping the 2006-2007 school plays listed. There have been hundreds of other plays, if any of those are notable please include information on them or refrain from unneeded detail altogether.Ninja337 23:07, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable Alumni[edit]

Christian Finnegan's wikipedia page says he grew up in Acton, but went to a different high school. I am removing him from the list of notable alumni. 2018 SAT, high school ranking[edit]

We would like to add the 2016-2017 high school SAT results and ranking for Acton-Boxborough Regional High School relative to other high schools in the state. The ABRHS Wikipedia page currently provides stale data indicating that we were first in the state for math in 2012. This is a notable achievement but we want to update the data, so that the public is aware of current test score results. Significantly, it has the 3rd highest cumulative SAT scores in MA for reading and math. The data is sourced from the Boston Business Journal, who compiled if from the the MASS Dept of Education. Not stating this gives the impression that it was a one time accomplishment and not a general trend for the district. Adding more 2018 test results[edit]

We want to update standardized test scores for ABRHS, we organized the lines for clarity. The goal is to cover all three standardized test results: SAT's, AP's and MCAS. The proposed text for the 2018 test results is below:

In 2017, the district's AP and MCAS exam scores continued this trend of high scholastic performance. There were 977 AP exams taken by 438 students. 94% of the exams received a 3 or better. 81% of the exams received a 4 or 5.[1]

The percent of 10th graders that earned a "proficient or higher" rating on MCAS in 2017, were as follows: Eng./L.A./Reading 98%, Math 95% and Science/Tech/Eng 96%. [1]

Data published by the MA Dept. of Education shows the consistently strong performance of ABRHS on SAT's. [2] In February 2018, the MA Dept. of Education released its 2016 -17 SAT score data. ABRHS had the following mean results: Reading 642, Math 665, Total score 1307. This placed ABRHS 3rd highest in the state, on SAT's [3]


We were asked the following questions "You need to answer a couple questions. First, who is this "we" you keep speaking of? Second, what is your relationship with the subject of the article in question? Your use of a plural pronoun and repeated arguments to the point that the information you are trying to add is important to portray the school in a positive light are indicative of an editor with a connection to the subject of the article"

We is my husband and I. We have a mixture of skills, computer science and writing so we collaborate on many things together. (I have a bachelor's degree from Cornell Univ., he has a Masters in CS.) We like to learn new technologies and thought that Wikipedia would be a fun way to contribute. (We are quickly being discouraged though. May we ask you what your vested interest is in holding back facts about Acton's test scores. Do you not like standardized testing? It seems like you have a particular hostility to this topic. Do you distrust it or not see its value?) We do not work for the school system, or have a vested interest in the schools. Our connection to the town is we have lived in MA since the late 90's and have lived in Acton, MA in the past. Currently we do not reside in that town.

When we looked at the Wikipedia page we noticed that the schools testing data was stale, so we were curious about the current results. When we looked at the current data, it was clear that recent results were note worthy. We, therefore, decided to update the facts. That is all -- we are updating facts that we feel should be out there. Since historical SAT scores are useful and pure data, we would like to cite the Mass Dept of Ed Performance Reports, to make this reference available to readers. We plan to add the following sentence and cite the state website. This will be the url that gets cited: http://profiles.doe.mass.edu/state_report/sat_perf.aspx

It would likely be acceptable to neutrally mention the state ranking, without comparing it directly to other schools, if independent reliable sources have covered that. As David notMD points out, definitely not the promotional "well-established record as a top performer". See WP:PUFFERY Meters (talk) 23:08, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Took out the 2010-12 comparative stuff as too old[edit]
