Maskless Picture[edit]

i dont know maybe its just me but i feel the picture of abyss maskless should be replaced with a pic of him wearing the mask since thats really what hes known for. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.171.120.165 (talk) 02:29, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The subject of this encyclopedia article is Chris Parks, not the character of Abyss. Yagobo79 (talk) 08:15, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The picture is horrible. Get a better one. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.62.83.114 (talk) 19:50, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a horrible picture... it is exactly what he looks like and the pic is only a month old. Yagobo79 (talk) 06:43, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Take it down. It's bad for business and very rude. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.103.21.7 (talk) 19:23, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The current picture is rubbish The C of E (talk) 19:58, 1 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It's extremely rude to the subject himself to show an unmasked picture. With regards to the comment that the article is about Chris Parks and not Abyss, am I to assume that all articles where the subject is a masked wrestlers will have an unmasked picture to accompany them (Rey Mysterio for example)? It's akin to a movie article that has spoiler warnings before the section regarding plot details, it allows the reader to make their own mind up whether they want to know or not. HDC7777 (talk) 14:57, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That really has no bearing. The picture was taken by a fan at a press conference. No, most other masked wrestler articles don't have an unmasked picture, because one isn't available that complies with WP:IMAGE. Abyss is a character, played by Parks. It's hardly on the offensive and insulting level to show him unmasked. This isn't lucha libre where you can be fined for mask violations. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 00:54, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As a former wrestler myself (to give you some perspective of where I'm coming from), I can tell you from experience that it is considered rude (and downright disrespectful) to show an image of a currently masked wrestler without consent from that person (up there with fans using wrestlers' real name when addressing them). In most cases, the mask is their whole identity and what they are mostly associated with. If you don't think it's insulting, I suggest you take a copy of that picture, go up to Abyss, address him as Chris Parks and ask him to sign it; see if he's not insulted. The main argument for using the unmasked picture is that the article is about Chris Parks and not Abyss, but if that's the case, why are his height and weight given as the character's details and not the man behind the character? HDC7777 (talk) 19:10, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If Abyss really feels that way, perhaps he shouldn't have allowed himself to be photographed unmasked at an event. As for your question, it's because there is no source for Parks' real height and weight, but plenty for the height and weight he's billed at while playing Abyss. Gavyn Sykes (talk) 21:52, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Friend in Florida has a different picture (not the unmasked one here) signed nov'09. He is in a checked shirt. mmaskless and its signed Abyss. HDC not everyone lives the character 24/7. Would that be a better picture if hes wwilling to scan and share it ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.217.38.167 (talk) 06:13, 28 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NFL Career[edit]

I've found no evidence to support the claim that Abyss played in the NFL with the Steelers, so I've taken it out of the article.Gook14 (talk) 23:00, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Education[edit]

Perhaps someone should look into his education. According to this article he began attending University at the age of 15 and attained a "bachelors degree" and a "masters degree" before beginning a job as DIRECTOR OF MARKETTING at the age of 20 for TWO separate sports franchises! I'm sorry, but this is complete garbage. There is no way this is possible. Someone should edit this page to remove unverifiable garbage. The number 2 source provided is an unreliable fan site and it also states the bit about him playing in the NFL which is untrue.

and the number 7 source doesn't show anything to back up this story. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.172.179 (talk) 19:14, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Miami Herald story still exists, but it's behind their paywall.[1] Does anybody have an account, to be able to reverify the text? (Or verify his DOB? That could be a simpler explanation for the date discrepancy.) —C.Fred (talk) 16:01, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Unfortunately we are unable to locate the page you have requested. This could be due to content on our site having expired, a broken link, an outdated bookmark, or a mistyped address. Please use the navigation and search box provided on this page". Nothing to do with paywall's. Just doesn't exist. The ladies will be along now to edit more bits of this discussion page because it doesn't suit their ignorance to actually discuss the fact that this article is based on unreliable information provided by an unreliable source. The same source which has already been discredited in relation to his alleged NFL career. --86.176.172.179 (talk) 18:00, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Have received the following email from Sean, who is the Marketing Co-Ordinator for the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Dear Mr ********

Through many different ownership changes, our trail of paperwork on employees is rather incomplete. However i did speak with someone in our box office who was affiliated with the team in 1993. She confirms that at that time we did have an employee by the name of Chris Parks. However, he was not employed as Marketing Director. She believes he worked in concessions. I am not sure if he went on to pursue a wrestling career but she did describe him as being "rather large" which is why she could recall him.

I hope this information is of assistance to you.

Yours,

Sean **** Marketing Co-Ordinator Cincinnati Cyclones

That confirms what I already knew, that the Wrestling Slam article is garbage. --86.176.172.179 (talk) 01:02, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, your inquiry is in the realm of original research. It's certainly not verifiable, though I agree that it means we should give more scrutiny to the claims from the Slam article. —C.Fred (talk) 01:26, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It is as verifiable, no i fact it is far more verifiable, than the Slam article, which as i have already pointed out, has already been discredited in regards to the NFL claim - --86.176.172.179 (talk) 08:23, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is it verifiable by any means other than calling the Cyclones and asking for Sean? —C.Fred (talk) 14:48, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
However, it sheds enough doubt on the true nature of the position that I've changed the wording to an "off-ice job." Likewise, I've removed the date of birth, which I don't see backed up in any source, nor was it referenced to one. —C.Fred (talk) 14:58, 26 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I really think the best course of action is to remove all the information about his early life as none of it is verifiable at all.--86.176.172.179 (talk) 00:13, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth[edit]

While looking into the recent edits here, I noticed that there is no source for his date of brith. His SLAM! Sports bio backs up his place of birth, but not date.[2] Does anybody have a source for the date? Otherwise, WP:BLP suggests it should be removed from the article. —C.Fred (talk) 16:20, 24 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hulkamania Corps?[edit]

Question - Abyss was the first pro wrestler granted a Power Ring by Hulk Hogan. Should we make a "Hulkamania Corps" page separate, or just include it under Abyss' page? Obviously there's not a lot of info on the Corps yet, beyond their headquarters is in Orlando and Hulk is the leader of the group and creator of the Power Rings. I believe this is their oath, though:

In Main Event or Curtain Jerk No one shall tell me I can't work Let those who dare to say they're tougher Fall to my leg drop Hulkamania, Brother! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.130.196.120 (talk) 20:01, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If there's not a lot of info on the Corps—and no sources on it—then they certainly don't need their own page. I'd also advise against adding it here unless it can be sourced reliably. —C.Fred (talk) 21:32, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

http://www.thegreenlanterncorps.com/forum/blog.php?b=64 Here's a link to a post by Hulk Hogan, basically calling out the entire spectrum of Lanterns. Could this be used as proof of Hogan starting his own Corps? Is he using TNA as a recruitment vehicle to induct more people into his Corps?

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/69/152850911_f88a32ce23_o.jpg The following is an image of Hulk Hogan appearing on the flesh of an innocent person. Much like the Parallax symbol appeared subliminally to followers of the Sinestro Corps before even being aware of his presence, Hogan's visage has appeared on people who may be offered a Power Ring in the future. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.130.196.120 (talk) 22:29, 4 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ring of Honor career section placement[edit]

Since the timeframe is 2003-2005 (I believe), shouldn't it be higher up, maybe after "Training and debut"? 74.129.253.192 (talk) 02:47, 2 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Front teeth[edit]

Abyss seems to have lost them of recent. Is there any info on this that can be added to the article?

That'll be RVD. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.28.21.130 (talk) 01:05, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Additional nickname[edit]

I remember when Abyss was wrestling for the International Wrestling Association (IWA) of Puerto Rico between 2002 and 2003, and some several times for the World Wrestling Council (WWC). But before he was nicknamed as "The Monster" in TNA, he was nicknamed as "The Human Mole" (or in Spanish "La Mole Humana") Here's an example video of him wrestling in Puerto Rico: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNMOmpn8no4 jlog3000 (talk) 16:16, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Abyss (wrestler)Monster Abyss – per WP:NATDAB this would do away with the need for parenthesis and take up less space, monster 7 chars while (wrestler) is 10 chars. Name can be seen in use here:

  • "Jeff Hardy Lays out a Challenge to the Monster Abyss". 23 January 2015.

This is used so often it almost seems like 'Abyss' on its own is a shortform. Ranze (talk) 06:57, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

oppose has the screen ever listed him as "Monster Abyss"? Tna "upcoming" or "next week" graphics? I have never seen that. Not a common name, not even an official name at all. MPJ-US  17:40, 2 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Monster is the nickname, no his official ringname. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 00:07, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Lead image[edit]

Sorry, no. That image of Chris Parks in tie dye and maskless is not typical of how people view him and thus should not be lead image of the article. Per MOS:IMAGELEAD, "It is common for an article's lead or infobox to carry a representative image‍ ...‌to give readers visual confirmation that they've arrived at the right page" (emphasis mine). Abyss is typically associated with a masked appearance. As proof, take a look at what the Google Image returns for the phrase "Abyss wrestler". Of the first couple of dozen images that come back, at least 2/3rd of them (if not more) are of Abyss with a mask. So the lead image should be of him with a mask.
