re: film-stub[edit]

This was double-stubbed because it contains information on both the book and the film. I'll not revert the removal of {{film-stub}} because it would just be bait for an edit war, but I'm making my opinion clear here nonetheless. Courtland 17:31, July 24, 2005 (UTC)

Is the title taken from the play by Turgenev?[edit]

The introduction to the Penguin edition says: "'Fine gentlemen from London', as Jim insisted on calling them, arrived at his house in Kettering, and pointed out that the title, of course, would not do, it had already been used by Turgenev. 'Is that so?' said Jim. 'I don't think I'll change mine, though.' He didn't." But that anecdote may be entirely ironic - and there are certainly similarities between the two plots.
