I don't understand, national teams are the only ones that take part in this event professionaly. Could you possibly be referring to records set by counties, states, regions and etc? If so, I bet the reason they are not mentioned is that there would simply be too much information to process. Assuming counties, states and regions even bother assembling groups of people to run in the first place to race against each other. I personally have never heard of such activities. EWR - ?[edit]

I would guess it means that the time equalled the World Record - the 37.40 by the United States at the 1992 Olympics and 1993 World Championships would seem to back this up. Agree it could do with being clarified in the article. 78.86.229.37 (talk) 14:30, 22 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Move proposal[edit]

I'm not sure why this is move protected but I reckon it could be due to past arguments over that "x" in the middle. Just looking at the Russian wikipedia's edits why don't we move this article to the "times" symbol? I've been thinking about this for a while now as the x is certainly meant to denote "times/multiplied by/by" and just the letter "x" is an odd choice over using "×" instead - which can be found in the insert toolbar below. Is there agreement to move this article to 4×100 metres relay? After all, all the "x" usages will redirect here anyway. Move proposal, August 2012 (singular modifier with hyphen)[edit]

"100 metres" is a compound modifier. Various style standards (as a tech writer, I've searched for and found several, and they're predominantly in agreement) agree that compound modifiers using a number and a unit (when the unit is not abbreviated) should be hyphenated. Furthermore, in normal speech and writing, noun modifiers generally take a singular form (two-person job, five-gallon bag, auto repair, trinket store, four-door sedan, etc.). Thus, I propose that the page be moved to "4 × 100-metre relay." Is there an existing Wikipedia style standard that contradicts this? Holy (talk) 18:28, 15 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Removing the 'References' table[edit]

I have completed the table listing the best twenty times recorded in this event. I don't think there is really any need for a column for references on this table as all of the times are taken from the same reference, which was already cited at the start of the article. I have tried to remove these references so that the same source is not cited twenty times but when I remove that column, the other columns are completely uneven. I am not very good at tables.
