attendance reporting[edit]

We seem to be having an issue with attendance reporting for games. All reputable sources list the attendance, but users like (DROSE78) are relying on pictures or video tabulate attendance to state attendance is not what is listed in reputable source. Posting this here to get a consensus and to avoid Wikipedia:Edit warring. --Lincolning (talk) 20:03, 4 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

(DROSE78) you are Wikipedia:Edit warring. (Jweiss11), Corkythehornetfan, -Zachlp, GreenRunner0, Billgatenguyen, Arjayay, Kevinthomas20, TheDiamoneMinor any help here? Lincolning (talk) 16:01, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The attendance figure you see reported by the NCAA, the teams, ESPN, and other sources reflects the number of tickets sold, not the number of people who physically went and attended the game. For example, I personally have attended a basketball game that was nearly empty (well under 50 people there) due to extreme weather, but the attendance was reported as being in the hundreds, presumably because there were many people who purchased tickets in advance but did not travel due to the conditions. Calling it attendance is arguably misleading, but that is the standard as of now and I don't see that changing anytime soon. So no, a picture of empty seats does not mean that a game wasn't sold out, or really have any reliable indication of the official attendance number. --Zachlp (talk) 18:53, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, that is the standard, but he continues to remove the numbers. Any way to stop this? Lincolning (talk) 18:17, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
