The 2013 football season hopes to be an exciting campaign for your Edmonton Eskimos. The 2012 season was a season many of us Eskies fans would soon like to forget, as the Esks muddled their way through a disappointing & disastrous 7-11 regular season record, including a loss in the Eastern Conference Semi-Final to the Toronto Argonauts. It was a season riddled with numerous injuries, too numerous to mention. Among those injuries most prominent, were Matt Nichols' leg & JC Sherritt's ankle. The good news is that both men will see a promiscuous 2013 campaign, especially since Nichols' surgery went over quite successfully, & should be ready & healthy during training camp next spring in time for the 2013 regular season. 2013 should also be the year Nichols sees more playing time, given his performance off the bench in games vs. Montreal & Calgary this past season (both losses). Veteran QB Kerry Joseph will also see playing time as usual. Joseph will turn 40 next season, & should see Anthony Calvillo-like numbers as well. Given Nichols' performance late this past season, Steven Jyles will be relegated to backup status behind Joseph & Nichols. We can't forget about Cary Koch's fine performance in the 2012 campaign, either, with his many sure-handed catches & stellar play at wide receiver. Fred Stamps has been Mr. Excitement as usual, providing an on-field rush that's indescribable, as he's always made that big play when the Eskies needed one. Hopefully, the Esks offensive line will see improvements as well, as they at times haven't done the job they needed to do to protect their QBs & running backs. Although the defense has struggled during the 2012 season, I look for improvements here as well in the coming season.
Yes, there's much to be hopeful for in the 2013 season. I see a Grey Cup for our beloved Eskies in the offing. Have faith, Eskies fans, as it should be one exciting upcoming season!
