RSF[edit]

This lot are not registered with the electoral commission so cannnot appear on the ballot paper under their own name or spend more than a few hundred £? I accept the rationale for including the parties listed in the party table. The results announced by the returning officers will use the party names included in the list and these only.
However, for the benefit of Wikipedia users, can we come up with a solution that allows readers to see clearly the six Republican Sinn Féin performs in the election? Various media outlets recognise RSF as a party and do not refer to its candidates as independents, such as Sunday Life[2], Ireland On-Line[3], the Irish Times and others.
I've just come across a source which says that RSF candidates will not be recorded as anything as the organisation disagreed with the description 'Independent'.[4]--Damac 15:10, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link, Weggie. I notice that other candidates, such as Paul Berry, have also declined the description of 'Independent', this should be reflected on the table here. After all, the principle to date has been to stick with the descriptions provided by the Electoral Commission. Discussion re: sockpuppetry (No policy violation suggested/No connection found)[edit]

It is my suspicion that User:Weggie has been engaging in sockpuppetry in an attempt to engage in an edit war on Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007.

For many months now, User:Weggie has persistently prevented any attempts to include the micro political party Republican Sinn Féin in the results of the Northern Ireland Assembly election. He basis his actions on the argument that as RSF is not registered with the UK Electoral Commission, the party does not exist and can therefore not be included in election results on Wikipedia.( See Talk:Northern_Ireland_Assembly_election,_2007#RSF) Weggie is alone in this view, and has not received any support from any other editor.

Although I always opposed excluding RSF from the table of results, I, and I suspect other Irish users, were intimidated into not making an issue over it due to Weggie's tendency to denegrate edits not to his liking as republican propaganda. I should state that I oppose RSF outright.

On 24 March, seasoned editor User:Sam Blacketer made the bold move and included RSF in the results table[5], and announced this on the page's talk page. At no state did Weggie attempt to challenge this alteration. Instead, I believe he made anonymous edits as User:86.12.249.63, even exceeding the 3RR rule. Today, I believe he has established a new account, User:Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007 to pursue his POV.

It's also interesting to note when Weggie was active under the difference account names he has adopted:

It is my suspicion that User:Weggie has been engaging in sockpuppetry in an attempt to engage in an edit war on Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007.

Recently, on 11 April 2007, Weggie announced he was taking a break from Wikipedia.[10] This was then followed by increased activity by User:86.12.249.63 on pages that Weggie had once engaged in, including Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007. After I and others requested this anonymous user to sign up to Wikipedia,[11], a new account User:Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007 appears on the scene.

This statement is untrue the results/candidates table only came into existance on the 14th of February [12], having existed for less than 2 months it is unlikely that this bahaviour has persisted for "many month"

This article has existed for some time with the position that the legal accepted results should be used, unfortunately as a past election, interest has gradually fallen off, and only a small sectarian rump of editors remain, the position to use the legal definition of a political party was supported in the past by at least:

User:Sam Blacketer [15] has only been active on wikipedia, for four months, and while he does make a good contributions, I would not yet call him seasoned!

The 3RR was accidently broken, and within 1 minute of breaking it, I undid my last edit [16], and refrained from editing WP for 24 hours (23 being honest). If you have an issue with this, there are proper forums upon which to raise it.

The increase in activity of User:86.12.249.63 also happpened to coincide with the end of lent, a christian period of abstenance, you may also find find a similar drop in activity at around Ash Wednesday. I would suspect that many wikipedians have similar editing patters, and the editors of Northern_Ireland_Assembly_election,_2007 would have similar interests in common.

There is little reason for me to have an account, and being given a rather rude reception by amongst others editors Damac [17] [18] [19] for not usinng a registered account, I chose a ridiculous name "User:Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007" and doing so to edit the article Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007 it was meant to be obvious that they were the same account. This account was being used entirely consistantly with the WP policy on sockpuppets.
I would hope when this is resolved that users user:Galloglass [20] and user:Damac [21] both retract their unfounded allegations and apologise to both myself and User:Weggie
In addition to the two user talk pages, additional locations of retractions should be placed at [22], [23], [24], [25] & [26]

WP:AGF and WP:NPA! I resent you including me among a group of "sectarian rump of editors" and demand that you withdraw it. Weggie has used this label in the past in an attempt to intimidate legitimate editors from raising legitimate concerns.
Compared to you, User:Sam Blacketer is a seasoned editor. You registered on April 16. But then again, are you Weggie?

Stating seasoned editor out of context, most users would consider this compared to a typical wikipedian. This point was made to demonstrate the dishonest nature of the language used in your evidence, (My comment is not a comment on this users abilities).

CHECK USER NOW OR WITHDRAW THIS. I have Zero sockpuppets. Yet more harrasment from Damac. The claim that because I once contributed to a debate on a topic is no evidence of anything and given my clarification of the legal status on the RSF article (information which is still in there) and also my contribution to adding the RSF results at election time to the RSF article entirely illogical. I would say Damac is both trying to intimidate the user above and to try diminish my ability to edit. I was concerned about the edits on Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007, checked on and followed Wikipedia proceedure for dealing with allegations of sockpuppetry.
I'm sorry that you see this as "more ... aggression" towards you (can you please tell me when I was "aggressive" towards you in the past?), but I would ask that you allow Wikipedia proceedures to run their course. If an editor has a legitimate concern that something is up, s/he has the right to follow proceedure. You may encounter sockpuppets in the future and may very well have to do the same.

On a point of information User:Damac did not follow procedure, and it is dishonest of him to claim so, he tried to use bully-boy tactics to label me a Sockpuppet, [33], [34], without reference to procedures, it was only after I repeatedly refused to accept his Vandalism and told him so [35] that he was prepared to give lip service to procedures, and has yet to make a claim of policy violation with regard to sockpuppetry - Northern Ireland Assembly election, 2007 15:57, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was unaware of the exact proceedure, but followed it when it was pointed out. As regards the WP:SOCK proceedure, I'm on a learning curve. I don't particularly enjoy dealing with alleged sockpuppets, but feel that it is important to protect the integrity of Wikipedia.
This is nothing personal, for I have dealt with other alleged sockpuppets in a similar manner. For instance, discounting your claim that I form part of a "sectarian rump of editors", I've challanged RSF fanatics and vandals countless times. Back in October 2005, I simply created lists of ISPs used by one notorious RSF vandal/sockpuppet (see User:217.43.172.38). Later, I learned about sockpuppet labels and applied these accordingly (see Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Seán1905). As you would claim, I was using "bully boy" tactics in doing so, yet I feel that by preventing article being vandalised and abused, the integrity of Wikipedia was upheld in the long run.
I've also had to deal with Greek sockpuppets, as in Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Mitsos.
Although this might not come as a consolation to you (sing/plural), there is nothing personal or political in all this. I dispise RSF more than I do sockpuppets.--Damac 07:47, 21 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The sockpuppet process has now closed and was not proven. A related checkuser was negative.
As I explain on Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Weggie, I've chased a couple of sockpuppets in the past, who were, in the main, fanatical supporters of RSF. There was nothing personal in accusing Weggie of being one. The fact of the matter was that this page was being reverted by an anonymous user, who is continuing his disruption.
It is a pity that Weggie has decided to leave; I wish he hadn't.

This is not an encylopedia article, it is a talk page, both to discuss the article, and to allow other users to see the processes resulting in the information contained in the article. Appointment of FM and DFM[edit]

From the article

The St Andrews Agreement states that the First Minister will be chosen from the largest party of the largest political designation and the Deputy First Minister from the largest party from the second largest political designation. [2].

The above isn't the whole story. The legislation passed actually says it goes straight to the largest party regardless of designation. i.e. The legislation deviates from what was published as the StAA.

Constituency split[edit]

I was just wondering whether it would be a good idea to spit up the Assembly constituencies from the Westminster ones as this is what is done with the Welsh and Scottish ones so we could have a Belfast East (UK Parliament constituency) and Belfast East (Northern Ireland Assembly constituency) --Barry talk 23:21, 25 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While those examples are somewhat different, in that their constituencies differ from the UK Parliamentary ones, I think that the length of the articles on the constituencies would make it desirable to split the Assembly information. This might then encourage editors to add the Assembly election results to the relevant articles. I would suggest, however, that the Assembly constituency articles should also cover the Forum, 73 and 82 Assemblies and Constitutional Convention. If you check my recent edit to it, I'd suggest two things. 1) Add a mention that the boundaries are not always the same as the Assembly boundaries sometimes don't keep pace with Westminster boundary changes. 2) add a link to the 1998 and 2003 results. Since the articles have grown a lot since they were created I think a split is order, although as the constituencies have always used the Westminster boundaries (the occassional differences such as etween 1973-1974, 1983-1986 and 1996-1997 stem from when elections take place rather than the Scottish situation where the boundaries are now deliberately separate) it may be handy to keep some of the information about geography, demographics and history on a central page, rather than risk the two getting out of sync. I've now created articles on Belfast East (Assembly constituency), Belfast North (Assembly constituency) and Belfast South (Assembly constituency). If anyone else would like to help create the remaining constituency articles, or with fleshing out the historic results, please do so!

Once the boxes in which we can add the 2007 results are in all the Assembly constituency articles, should we remove them from this article? It's not usual to have detailed results for each constituency in an article on an election, and it seems that this kind of duplication may not be desirable. Very good work saves me from having to do it, I think its OK to remove the results from this page now and on that note I am creating an infobox template for the Assembly constituency articles but I am not shure what to put in the date they where created do you go with 1973, the original assembly of 1999, the current one. --Barry entretien 20:30, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Created" isn't really a simple concept for these constituencies. Could we perhaps have "First used"? That would allow 1973 to be used for most of them, and 1996 for the newer constituencies. Warofdreams talk 00:23, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know but I can feel a mass deletion coming on. The WP:AFD has always been that a person must pass WP BIO to have their own page, and being elected leader or some local region apparently wasn't notable enough and USA candidates were all removed, getting on the front page may well cause a serious of AFD's. Look at the list of all the people who lost their seat/stepped down, i don't think anyone of them would pass WP:BIO o_O but who knows...--155.144.251.120 02:31, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Table of results[edit]

We a large table of results. I'd like to remove the 2003 results, which can be found by checking the 2007 results and the change, or from our article on the 2003 election. Party Control[edit]

The phrase Party control by seat plurality. doesn't feel right to me - getting a plurality of seats in an Assembly constituency allows a party to control, well, nothing actually. And surely it means first preference vote plurality anyway? E.g. in North Down the UUP and DUP have 2 seats each, but the DUP had more first preferences? I've changed it accordingly.
